Biography Textures

The Textures (risen from the ashes of bands like Lost Sacrament and Ground Control) play an aggressive mix of thrash metal, hardcore and progressive metal combined with the use of electronic instruments. In August 2003 Polars comes out, an album that gets raving reviews. Hard rock magazine Aardschok picks the album as CD of the month. Two months after its release the album comes to the attention of the French label Listenable Records which releases Polars worldwide in the spring of 2004. Textures supports the likes of Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Machinehead, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Peter Pan Speedrock. In June 2004 the band wins an Essent Music Award and with this a gig at the Lowlands festival in August.

2003 - 2004

In August 2003 Textures releases its self-produced album Polars. It receives rave reviews. It is album of the month in Aardschok ('Earthquake') magazine. Two months after its Dutch release France's Listenable Records picks up the album for a worldwide release in the spring of 2004. Textures supports big bands such as Morbid Angel, Sepultura, Machinehead, Meshuggah, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Peter Pan Speedrock. In June the band wins an Essent Award, which comes with a show at the annual Lowlands festival. In the fall Textures tour the UK with Australia's Alchemist and Sweden's Cult Of Luna. Next is a European tour with Alchemist.

2005

Textures Dennis Aarts wins a Devil (musicians to musicians) Award (established by the Dutch Rock & Pop Institute) for 'Best Bassist.' In the summer the band is working on new material for the next album. Meanwhile it is building a recording studio. After the recordings the studio singer/guitarist Jochem Jacobs starts using the studio for his own company Split Second Sound. On August 11 Textures play at the Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic. In the end of September/early October Textures embark on a short French tour, hitting cities like Niort, Quimperlé and Bolbec. The band is featured on the Silence Booth TV commercial by Nokia.

2006

Textures In conjunction with metal magazine Aardschok ('Earthquake') second album Drawing Circles is presented with three shows in Tilburg and Amsterdam in April. Supported by label mates Gojira among others, the band tours Holland. After shows in Belgium, France and Spain, the band tours the UK with local band Twin Zero in the second half of July. In August the band performs live at the Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic. During November and December Textures tour through Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France with the band Arch Enemy. Early November the album Drawing Circles is officially released in the US. Guitarist Jochem Jacobs produces the album Darkday Carnival by the band Cypher. Together with Bouke Visser, Jacobs also produces a new album by the band Detonation.

2007

In the spring Textures kick off an extensive European tour with the bands All That Remains and Misery Signals. Also, they appear at the great Escape showcase festival (Brighton, UK). On 14 July, Textures plays with new bass player Remko Tielemans (37 Stabwoundz, ex-Isle Of Man) for the first time. Recordings for the band's new album are underway with the new bassist and guitarist Jochem Jacobs as producer.

2008

Silhouettes is the band's best album up until now according to hardrock magazine Aardschok. In October a video is shot for the single Awake with director Rob Hodselmans and producer David Leite. Drummer Stef Broks also plays in fusion-metalband Exivious, together with bass player Robin Zielhorst and guitarists Michel Nienhuis and Tymon (Cynic).

2009

Textures is travelling through Europe in the period April-August playing shows in Switzerland (Metaldayz festival), France (Delirium Festival), Germany (Legacy Festival and Euro Blast), Spain, Czech Republic and Hungary. The band also performs at Dutch festivals including Metropolis, Zwarte Cross, Nirwana Tuinfeest, Breda Barst and Dynamo Outdoor Fest 2009 and more shows abroad: Finland, Portugal, Hungary, Czech Republic, Turkey, Denmark and Russia. On 5 December the band even plays in India, headlining the Deccan Rock Festival in Bangalore. Late 2009, the band takes time off from touring to write songs for a new album. It will be the band's first album on the Nuclear Blast label.

2010

Via EMI Textures releases a special compilation album for the Indian market. Textures: Extracts 2004-2009 features songs from the first three albums. In the same month singer Eric Kalsbeek announces that he will leave the band to concentrate on his job and his family. Daniël de Jongh (ex-Cilice) is the band's new frontman.

2011

At the end of January recordings for the fourth studio album Dualism start at the studio Split Second Sound in Amsterdam, again with Jochem Jacobs as producer. During the
Gala Van De Popmuziek (the annual grand gala of Dutch music venues), May 11 in Amsterdam, Jochem Jacobs wins a Duiveltje Award for Best Guitarist. Duiveltje (Little Devil) is the annual award presented by Music Center The Netherlands. Right after the release of Dualism Textures goes on a first North American tour in September and October, together with the American bands Periphery, The Contortionist and The Human Abstract. Back in Europe Textures and the Berlin band The Ocean start a tour through Great Britain and France.
