Shai Lifshitz was born on August 28, 1966 in Poria (Israel)
Education
From 1980-1984 he studied composition with Lev Kogan at the Thelma Yelin Highschool for the Arts in Tel Aviv. Immediately thereafter he followed lessons in compositon with Arik Shapira (Tel Aviv) and Marc Kopitman (Rubin Academy of Music, Jerusalem) between 1985-1987. With a scholarship from the Sharet funds he was also able to follow piano lessons for eighteen months with Yonathan Zak at the Rubin Academy. From 1989-1990 he studied composition with Peter-Jan Wagemans and Klaas de Vries at the Conservatory of Rotterdam. Thereafter he continued his composition studies with Geert van Keulen and piano with Hans Dercksen at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam (1990-1996).
Activities
He was as pianist and composer affiliated with the Bei Zvi theater school from 1986-1989. From 1992 to 1996 he arranged for and was pianist for the men's choir Manoeuvre in Amsterdam.
CompositionsDomino for ensemble De Ereprijs and flute trio Tegenwind. In 2002 he completed the 24-part piano composition De Minnaarscatalogus (The Lovers Catalogue), inspired by the well-known Don Juan-theme.
