1988 - 1990
Robin Berlijn (The Hague, 3 april 1971) is first heard of in the late eighties when he joins the rock band Fatal Flowers, at the age of 17. At the time it is one of the leading exponents of the so-called 'Amsterdam guitar school'. He performs a great deal in the Dutch club circuit with the band, tours Europe and plays in New York a number of times. Rock legend Mick Ronson produces the band's final album Pleasure Ground.
1991 - 1994
Berlijn moves to London, where he performs with various bands, and plays on the album Walking The Reeperbahn, ex-Wishbone Ash member Martin Turner's solo debut.
1995 - 2000
Back in Amsterdam he starts the punk-bluesrock trio 13 with Henk Jonkers and Dick Brouwers, in which he is the singer as well as the guitarist. Electrolux, Excelsior Recordings' precursor, releases a single by the band. Berlijn can be heard on the Claw Boys Claw album Will-O-The-Wisp. He is also a member of The Blind Dogs, singer Wally Tax's new band.
2001 - 2010
In this period Berlijn is featured as a guest guitarist with various bands and artists, including Bettie Serveert, Kopna Kopna, The Wild Romance, Wende Snijders, but also foreign singer-songwriters like Shannon Lyon and Sam Lapides. In 2001 Berlijn becomes singer Ellen ten Damme's regular guitarist. He does a variety of projects with her: in clubs and theaters, at festivals, and very successfully at De Parade (a travelling music and theater festival), on electric guitar with her own band, in an acoustic setting, with a big band, with the German rocker Udo Lindenberg and with jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap. Berlijn produces Ellen ten Damme's CD Impossible Girl and his composition Daar Waar Jij Wil Zijn is featured on the album Durf Jij, on which she sings in Dutch exclusively. The theater show of the same name is received very well and takes them to over eighty Dutch theaters. He writes the score for a documentary on Ten Damme, As I Was Wondering... for which she is awarded the EECB Nathwani Prize in Barcelona. 2006 sees a musical high point for Berlijn: the self-taught guitarist performs High Speed Train, a composition he has written for electric guitar and symphony orchestra. He performs it himself with the Noord Nederlands Orkest at the Groningen Noorderzon Festival. In 2008 the guitarist joins Kane and can be heard on their CD No Surrender. In the fall of 2010 13's long awaited debut album is released by Excelsior Recordings.
