Biography Quazar

Dutch house pioneer Gert van Veen alias MG. The band combines a variety of styles such as techno, clubhouse, funky acid and mainstream pop.

1990

Gert van Veen, formerly with House of Venus, forms Quazar with Cycle, who was also in House of Venus. Their first single Seven Stars gets good reviews and even gets charted in the UK.

1991

Seven Stars is the name is Quazar's debut album. On stage Quazar line-up consists of Van Veen on keyboards, Cycle on bass and singer Farida Merville.

1993

The CD Here and Now is released and clearly indicates the band's move towards deep house. The single Unity enters the charts. Shortly after that both Cycle and Merville leave the band.

1994

Quazar Deeper and Higher is Quazar's new single. Its follow-up is North Star.

1995

The new CD Zodiac Trax comes out. Van Veen starts to collaborate with Underworld singer Carl Hyde who does the vocals on the Zodiac Trax single Sunflower.

1996

Quazar performs with Carl Hyde at the Crossing Borders music and poetry festival in The Hague.

1997

Quazar The CD Flight Recorder is released and preceded by the single This Is Music.

1999

The album 21 Hours is released.

2000

Bas Tangermann joins the band on stage.

2001

Quazar celebrates its 10th anniversary in Paradiso in Amsterdam.

2003

Former Quazar member DJ Cycle and singer/dancer Ariel Romero and flute player Mark Alban present Afro Lounge in which they combine jazzy lounge, house, African music and Latin.

2004

Gert van Veen writes the coffee table book Release, The Story About (dance entrepreneur) ID&T

2007 - 2009

Starting in 2007, Gert van Veen and ID&T annually organises the Welcome To The Future festival. He also is one of the programmers of night club Studio 80 and a member of the six-piece producer collective Amsterdam 661 (with Kabale Und Liebe, Lauhaus, David Labeij, Julien Chaptal and Boris Werner). In 2009 Quazar performs only three times, including a show at Dance Valley. Besides Van Veen (GMG) the groups line-up includes Jobbe Strobosch alias Jobez. Inspired by the artists that come to Studio 80 each week, Quazar goes into the studio to record new material and work on classic Quaza tracks.
