Biography Nobody Beats The Drum
Nobody Beats The Drum is a Utrecht trio blending hiphop and breakbeats with video images.
2003 - 2005
Jori Collignon and Sjam Sjamsoedin have met in the Utrecht band 6 Of Your Best Friends. Together with Rogier van der Zwaag they start Nobody Beats The Drum. Three months later, when they haven't even got a live act, they send some beats to the Grote Prijs van Nederland (the major Dutch talent competition). By way of the regional final NBTD reaches the national final in the Dance/Producers category in December 2003. The band wins the final and DJ Sjam is voted Best Musician. The trio gives a concert in London and is support act to Zuco 103 regularly.
2006 - 2008
After a first 12'' in 2005 it takes the band until March 2008 to release a complete album. Van der Zwaag suffers from RSI and Sjamsoedin is touring with Zuco 103 under the name DJ $jammie The Money. Keyboardist Jori Collignon sings in Dutch in the band Amigos Electricos and is also a member of C-Mon & Kypski's live band. The NBTD band members all move from Utrecht to Amsterdam. Tracks of the debut album Beats Work, released by the 100% Halal label, are also performed by NBTD during their appearance at the 2008 Groningen Noorderslag festival. The music video Quit Your Job is directed by VJ Rogier van der Zwaag. Their second single, The Drum, is a hit on YouTube.
2009
In January Nobody Beats The Drum starts recording new tracks in Great Britain and combines this with a twelve day club tour including gigs in London, Norwich, Derby, Bristol and Newport. After a Russian tour the band travels to Morocco (Tremplin Festival in Casablanca) and France (Europavox Festival in Clermont-Ferrand) in late May. In October the website Flabber.nl shows home-made movies by the band documenting their adventures. In late November the British Satans Circus Records releases their EP Focus, featuring two new tracks plus two remixes by Deadbots and Jay Robinson. The British release is followed by a short tour, taking Nobody Beats The Drum to London, Bristol and Dartington between 13 and 21 November.
2010
From 8 to 17 July NBTD does some shows in the United States with C-Mon & Kypski, performing in Buffalo, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Boston, Pittsburgh and Mariaville. Back in Europe they appear at a number of summer festivals starting with the Big Festival in Biarritz, France. In September they perform at three festivals in Belgium (Lommel Open Air, Borderbeats in Essen and the Gullegem Jeugdfeesten).
