Biography Ludwig Otten
1924
Ludwig Otten was born on February 24, 1924 in Zandvoort.
Education
He received his training as a professional musician at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He studied piano with Johanna Wagenaar and music theory with Martin Lürsen. He also studied with Sem Dresden and Henk Badings.
Activities
As of 1952 he was active as a teacher for piano and theory at the Music School in Deventer. From 1970 he taught music theory at the Rotterdam Conservatory of Music.
Compositions
Ludwig Otten composed mainly chamber music, some orchestral works and music for brass ensembles. He received several commissions (i.e. from the Dutch government and the Johan Wagenaar Foundation) and a grant. In general his work is characterized by 'Spielfreudigkeit' and certainly not by progressiveness. He has an unconcealed admiration for Maurice Ravel and the Dutch author W.F. Hermans.

He was granted De Gulden Adelaar (The golden eagle), a cultural prize by the City of Deventer.
