Biography Joost Kleppe
1963
Joost Kleppe (1963, Amsterdam) studied composition with Tristan Keuris (1946-1996) at the Utrecht conservatory. In 1990 he received the Composition Prize of the Conservatory for the song cycle Winter. Then he studied with international scholarships in Hungary (Pépinieres pour Jeunes Artistes 1993), England (International Course for Professional Choreograpers and Composers 1996) and Germany (Künstlerhäuser Worpswede 1994 en 2000).
Joost Kleppe focuses especially on vocal music with literary and theatrical origins. Recent compositions are: Sinfonia de uma noite inquieta (Fernando Pessoa, 1997) for choir, De Tweede Reis (The second voyage, 1998) chamber opera, Psyche (2002), for flute, Más Allá (2002) for choir, organ and strings and Lumen (2004) for large choir and orchestra. For theatre he wrote Leven in hel, de operette (Live in Hell, text Ramsey Nasr, 2001) and the opera Sneeuwwit, based on the book Zwart als Inkt (Pitch Black) by Wim Hofman, had its first performance in 2006.
