Biography Jo van den Booren
Jo van den Booren is born on March 14, 1935 in Maastricht. He studied trumpet in Maastricht and composition with Antoon Maessen, Louis Toebosch, Ton de Leeuw, Kees van Baaren and Klaus Huber (at the Conservatory of Music in Basel). Jo van den Booren was first trumpet player in the Brabants Orkest. He was co-founder of the foundation Resonans and the Resonans Brass Quintet, performing contemporary music. He conducted ensembles of the Brabants Orchestra also in concerts with his own compositions, e.g. Symphony I and Symphony II, Souvenir and the one-act plays Nu Noch and Huwelijksaanzoek (Proposal of marriage). Van den Booren wrote music for solo-instruments, chamber music, symphonic music, compositions for choir, marching band and music for films, mostly written in commission and performed in The Netherlands and abroad. In 1968 Van den Booren was awarded the Visser Neerlandia prize for the oboe quartet Estremi. In 1989 he was awarded the Noordbrabantse Cultuurprijs (Culture prize of the province of Noord Brabant) and in 1994 he was decorated with the Companion of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
