Biography Jan van Dijk
Jan van Dijk is born on June 4, 1918 in Oostzaan. He studied piano with Jaap Callenbach and composition with Willem Pijper. He was a teacher at the conservatories of music in Rotterdam, The Hague and Tilburg. He was co-founder of the Dutch Youth and Music-section. Jan van Dijk has written a little over 1000 compositions, ranging from orchestral and choral music to chamber music, songs and stage music. Many compositions are written for amateurs such as concertos for recorder, electronic organ, accordion and pianola. He has also composed works in the 31-tone temperament. Jan van Dijk is awarded the Visser-Neerlandia-prijs (twice), the Willem Pijper-prijs, the Cultuurprijs of the Province of Noord-Brabant and the Hertog Jan Prize.
