Biography Jan Wisse
Jan Wisse received commissions from BRT (Belgium), Radio Hilversum, WDR Köln and RSI Lugano. His compositions are performed by Dutch radio choirs and orchestras conducted by Paul Hupperts, Karel Mengelberg, Hein Jordans, Roelof Krol, Ed Spanjaard, and the Gaudeamus Quartet, Sweelinck orchestra and Forum; abroad by a.o. Melos Quartet, piano duo Kontarsky, flutist Gazelloni, Hans Rosbaud and Dean Dixon. 's favourite composers are: Monteverdi, Bach, Haydn, Brahms, Ravel and Strawinsky. One of his most important compositions is 'Sette aforismi' for orchestra (1956).
1921 - 1971
Jan Wisse was born on October 9, 1921 in Terneuzen. He studied piano and composition (with Kees van Baaren) at the Amsterdam Muzieklyceum. Jan Wisse was a pianist (cabaret and ballet), music editor at Elsevier's Weekblad and programmer of classical music for Dutch radio. In 1971 he moved to Poschiavo, Switzerland where he worked as an organist and choirmaster.

In the year of Europe 1985 Wisse was awarded the Europe Prize.
1998 - 2008
Since 1998 Jan Wisse lives in Echternach (Luxemburg) where he dies on October 11, 2008.
