Biography Intwine

Rock band that was formed by students of the Dutch Rock Academy. Intwine combines latin, reggae and hiphop with Pearl Jam and Creed influences. In 2002 singer Roger Peterson joins the Dutch version of Pop Idol. The band signs a recording contract and has a first hit in 2003.

1978 - 2001

Guitarist Jacob Streefkerk is born 1978 in the village of Dirksland and then moves with his family to Sint Maarten (Dutch Antilles). At the age of 16 he teams up with bassist Touché (Edsel Eusebius) with who he formes several bands. Jacob returns to the Netherlands and enlists at the Dutch Rock Academy. One year later Touché joins him. At the Rock Academy they meet Roger Peterson who was born on Aruba in 1980. Roger was the singer of a band called Alias and together with guitarist Martin Buitenweg he formed the band R&M with which he scored a number one hit on Aruba. At the Rock Academy Jacob, Touché, Roger and singer/rapper Michael 'White Mike' form the band Orange Grove.

Orange Grove

Roger joins talent show Pop Idol. When he and the other contestants have to sign a contract Roger refuses, because it would interfere with the career of his band. Without a contract Roger forced to leave the show. However, Roger managed to get a lot of free publicity and also a recording deal for Intwine, a new band he has formed with Jacob and Touché and college mates Kevin Hissink and Erwin Gielen. Intwine signs to Dureco.

Intwine In February Intwine's first single Happy? is released in the Netherlands and Belgium. The song reaches number 3 in the charts. The band plays the Dutch clubs and festivals and releases their debut album which gets good reviews from the Dutch music press. In December Intwine plays the Ahoy' arena in Rotterdam during Live38, organised by radio station Radio 538.

Intwine Intwine plays the Noorderslag festival in January. The DVD The P.U.R.E. Session comes out and also contains several videos and a bonus CD. Cruel Man is the title track of the movie De Dominee ('The Vicar'). As it happens, it is the last single release by Dureco. Cruel Man is also the first single of the second album Perfect. Drummer Erwin Gielen leaves the band in order to join the band Liesbet where he replaces Dennis van de Pol. Jeremy Bonarriba is caretaker drummer for Intwine. In December Rocheteau Mahuwallan becomes the steady drummer.

On March 19 at Amsterdam's Panama club Intwine gets a 3FM Award in the category Best Album for the CD Perfect. Thanks to the public vote on the Pinkpop website the band plays at the festival by that name. On June 25 they appear at Madrid's Metro Rock. Before the festival the album is released in Spain. In The summer Jon Symons (who also plays in Primal Rage) replaces guitarist Kevin Hissink.

Intwine Intwine plays at the Vrienden van ('Friends Of') Amstel Live at the Rotterdam Ahoy' Arena. With Belgium's Sarah Bettens they sing the song Not An Addict, the hit by her former band K's Choice. The live recording is the bonus track on Bettens' single Come Over Here. In February Intwine pays a visit to the slums of Rio de Janeiro, which experience leads to the single Peace Of Mind. It's a protest against poverty in the world and suits the general theme of (Tilburg's) Mundial Festival in June, where the band shows a TV documentary about their trip to Brazil the day before they play live. Percussionist Ferdinand van Duuren leaves the band after personal and artistic differences. Feel It is the first single of the album Pyrrhic Victory which is released on 9 October. The song is the title track of the Dutch film Nachtrit (Night Ride). The song For Goodness Sake also features in this film.

Because of internal troubles, the V2 label is not able to promote the album. Intwine therefore handles all promotional activities themselves. During the 2006/2007 season, the band tours in the Netherlands with their Rumshop Session Tour. The band records a DVD during a show on 13 September at club 013 in Tilburg. One of the guests during that show is rapper Brainpower. Intwine and Brainpower write a song together with the video game Assassin's Creed. The track The Chosen (Assassin's Creed) is released mid-November through the PIAS label.

Intwine releases a new album through the Hamburg label Tiefdruck-Musik. While the band is working on Kingdom Of Contradiction, drummer Rocheteau Mahuwallan and bassist Edsel Eusebius leave the band to focus on other musical projects. They are replaced by Eric Spring in 't Veld (from the band Bukkes) and Pablo Penton (Brainpower and Alain Clark).

The fourth album Kingdom Of Contradiction features a cover of the Police song Walking On The Moon which is also the first single off the album. Belgian singer Sarah Bettens contributes to the album. Bettens and Intwine have worked together before in 2006. In October the annual theatre tour Rumshop Sessions kicks off again. Especially for the fans the band releases a limited edition EP with studio recordings of the Rumshop Sessions.
