1889 - 1920
Hanna Beekhuis is born on September 24, 1889 in Leeuwarden. She studies music with Peter van Anrooy, Frits Schuurman and Otto Barblan (in Geneva). She also studies piano at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne (Germany) with Ewald Strässer and Franz Bölsche and she obtains a piano degree. After that she studies with Dirk Schäfer and Bernard Stavenhagen.
1920 - 1940
After she finishes her piano study Hanna Beekhuis forms a trio with vocalist To van der Sluys and flutist Johan Feltkamp. On several occasions she performs as a soloist in Mozart concertos - her favourite composer - with Dutch orchestras. In the early 1930’s she founds the society 'Kunst in intieme kring' (Art in an intimate circle), with the intention to offer artists a podium to show or perform their work without the burden of press reviews.
Prizes
Cupidootje, for mezzo soprano and piano, was awarded a prize in 1951 and in 1961 she received a gold medal and an honorary diploma in Buenos Aires for Reflets du Japon, for alto and viola.
1950 - 1980
The composition 'Cupidootje', for mezzo soprano and piano, is awarded in 1951 and in 1961 Hanna Beekhuis receives a gold medal and an honorary diploma in Buenos Aires for 'Reflets du Japon', for contralto and viola. Hanna Beekhuis dies on February 2, 1980 in Bloemendaal.
