Education
Following his gymnasium B (secondary school) studies in Eindhoven, he studied piano, composition and music theory at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Activities
Erik Lotichius was senior lecturer at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he taught counterpoint, harmony, analysis and arranging. Additionally he wrote a novel about his youth in Eindhoven 1944 and the children's book Roos en Roos ontdekt de wereld.
Compositions
He composes in many styles, both 'light' and 'serious'. The so-called 'licht' music includes the musical Eline Vere, many songs for voice, piano and saxophone on texts by Shakespeare, Brecht, Prévert, Villon, which he performed with his trio Metamorfose often during lunch, coffee and evening concerts. Performance took place in various concert halls included the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Doelen in Rotterdam and Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in Utrecht. His so-called serious work includes a number of piano concertos and saxophone concertos, a Symfonie, Concerto Leggiero for piano and wind instruments, Variaties for orchestra on a Duke Ellington theme, Concerto grosso for fanfare, and chamber music: Sonate for solo viola, Sonate for solo alto saxophone, two quintets for wind instruments, Sonate for tuba and piano en een Saxofoonkwartet.
