1989

Ellen ten Damme After dropping out of university where she studied Dutch, Ten Damme goes to Amsterdam to study at the art academy in Amsterdam where she specializes in playing the piano.

1991

Ten Damme's career as an actress is on the up and while still studying at the art academy she gets her first part in a Dutch film called 'Tranen van Maria Machita' ('Tears of Maria Machita').

From 1992 to 1994 Ten Damme acts in several Dutch TV-series and films. She also sings on the soundtrack of a number of Dutch films.

1994 - 1996

Ten Damme gets a record deal with Mercury and records her first album Kill Your Darlings. Although the album gets good reviews and is even nominated for an Edison, sales are lacking behind. For a while she concentrates on her acting career.

Ten Damme joins recently reformed new wave band Soviet Sex. They release the album Hotel Winston. She also sings with on a track of the band Jeunes Turcs, which becomes a hit in Turkey. Ten Damme records some material for the original soundtrack album of Caspar, The Friendly Ghost.

Ten Damme plays the part of Paula in de film No Trains, No Planes from Jos Stelling. She also has a regular column in newspaper Volkskrant Magazine. She records a new album with Richard Janssen (Fatal Flowers, Shine, Rex), JB Meijers (Shine, Supersub) and former Urban Dance Squad members Michel Schoots and Silvano Matadin.

Ellen ten Damme Ten Damme performs at the Noorderslag festival in January. In the meantime she is continuing recordings for her upcoming album.

Ten Damme's second album, I Am Here, is released in April. The first single taken from the album is It Ain't Easy. Ten Damme performs at both the Pinkpop festival and Lowlands.

With the Bonobo Band featuring Robin Berlijn and Bart van Poppel she plays at the Parade and Lowlands festival. She plays a role in ARD-televised German detective series Tatort and Dutch film Volle Maan ('Full Moon') for which she records the single Vegas.

As a publicity stunt Radio 3 organises a competition in which the person with the most original marriage proposal can marry Ellen ten Damme in Las Vegas. On Valentine's Day it is announced that Kevin from Dutch band the Apers is the lucky winner. The Atlantic Affairs tour of China that Ellen ten Damme was supposed to do with German Udo Lindenberg is postponed until September because of the SARS virus. The tour starts in Germany early June.

Ellen ten Damme In February Ellen goes on a German tour with Nina Hagen, Peter Maffay and Eric Burdon as part of 30 Jahre Panik-Power. Following this, Ellen and Lindenberg leave for China where they perform in Peking and Shanghai. Ellen also writes the music for the film Castings. Together with Robin Berlijn (Fatal Flowers, 13) Ten Damme works on a new album. Some tracks are tested at the Black & White Circus shows at the yearly Parade festival tour. Her band consists of Berlijn, Dick Brouwers, Diederick Nomden (Johan) and Jeroen Kleijn (Daryll-Ann). Ellen ten Damme and Meteors singer Hugo Sinzheimer are featured on an international fairytales DVD, cut at Cologne-based Conny Plank Studio. All proceeds go to charity. Other contributors include Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Nina Hagen and Gianna Nannini. Ten Damme is featured as a swimmer in art film FLO by Daniëlle Kwaaitaal. The film, meant to be released as a DVD at a later date, is premiered at the national Museum Night on November 6. The singer also stars in films like Ferienfieber directed by This Lüscher, Mein Bruder ist ein Hund by Peter Timm and Elektra by Rudolf Mestdagh.

In January and February she puts on a series of 'Ellen sings Blondie' shows in Amsterdam Panama's club. On February 6 Ellen & The Jazz Orchestra Of The Concertgebouw are performing live in Amsterdam's Melkweg. On the set list are her favourite female artists, such as Nina Hagen, Kate Bush, Marlene Dietrich and Britney Spears. On March 12 Ten Damme and her legendary German partner Udo Lindenberg take part in the German finals of the Eurovision Song Contest with a mellowed down version of the controversial anti-war song Platgefickt ('Fucked Total Loss'), now called Platgeliebt ('Worn Out').

2006

Ten Damme can be seen in the video Deep Blue Sea by MIR. She also plays a role in Wrong Time, Wrong Place, an episode of UK detective series Dalziel & Pascoe, which is set in Amsterdam.

2007

Ellen ten Damme In January Ten Damme participates in the arena show Vrienden Van ('Friends Of') Amstel Live in Ahoy', doubling as singer and host. After Ahoy' Ten Damme and band embark on a theatre tour Von Kopf bis Fuß ('From Head To Toe'). For her third album she co-writes material with guitarist Robin Berlijn. Impossible Girl (April) is recorded with Berlijn and drummer Henk Jonkers, while Frans Hagenaars is in the producer's seat. Guests include Diederik Nomden. The record shows influences by '60s and '70s classic rock by bands such as The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac and The Pretenders. In the same month the documentary Ellen ten Damme - As I Was Wondering Where This Mixed-Up Little Life Of Mine Was Leading To is premiered in the film houses. For one and a half year director Rob Hodselmans followed her everywhere since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 2005.

2008

Ellen ten Damme plays fourteen extra shows during the months March, April, May and June as part of the Impossible Girl club tour. The start is on 7 March and the last show is on 5 June in Paradiso, Amsterdam. The backing band includes Baz Mattie (drums) Dick Brouwers (bass), Diederik Nomden (keyboards) and Robin Berlijn (guitar). The band Shane Shu is support act. During a show in the Dutch language Ten Damme sings songs with lyrics by Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer. In September Ten Damme she also performs in Berlin in Boulevard Of Broken Dreams. In October she tours with Udo Lindenberg in Germany with the Stark Wie Zwei tour. The kick-off is on 6 October in Rostock.

2009

The songs of the theatre show Durf Jij ('Do You Dare?') and the album of the same title, have been inspired by Ilja Leonard Pfeiffer. It is the first time Ten Damme performs an entire theater tour in the Dutch language. She is backed by the musicians Robin Berlijn (guitar) and Jan van Eerd (drums, vibraphone). Aftet several try-outs November and December, the tour kick off on 13 March in Haarlem. On 5 May, Ellen ten Damme and DJ Isis travel the country by helicopter as Ambassadors of Freedom as part of the Freedom festivals. In August Ellen ten Damme is the centre of attention for four weeks during the World Summer festival in a show called Cirque Stiletto. The album Durf Jij?, produced by Reyn Ouwehand, is released on 13 November. The theatre tour is continued in the autumn.
