Musical education
He studied piano with Egbert Veen and Ulfert Schults and conducting and composition with Sem Dresden. He passed the final exam of the music academy in Amsterdam with highest honours at the age of eighteen.
Activities
As of 1934 he played regularly with the Concertgebouw and other leading orchestras in The Netherlands. I After World War II he successfully toured many European countries as well as the United States. He has made many recordings for Philips, Decca etc. In 1960 he was forced to end his career as a concert pianist because of problems with his right arm. For some time he played only with his left hand and in that period he made many arrangements for the left hand. He worked as a music producer at the Dutch radio service and promoted Dutch contemporary music.
Compositions
He wrote several pieces for piano and orchestra (1932, 1939, 1950, 1956), music for piano solo, e.g.: Sonatine (1940), Variations imaginaires (1967), Valse tendre (1969), chamber music and songs.
Prizes
In 1936 he is one of the finalists at the illustrious international contest for pianists in Vienna.

CD releases include the Sonatine pastorale for oboe and piano (1961) was released by Maarten and Ariane Karres (Erasmus WVH093).
