Biography Bart Schneemann
Bart Schneemann performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor. He has a broad musical orientation and plays old and new music of a variety of styles. Schneemann strives for diversified programming and contact with a broad section of the public. His importance in contemporary music is evident from the large number of works written for him by Dutch and foreign composers. As a soloist, he has worked with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Edo de Waart, Hartmut Haenchen, Ernest Bour, Frans Brüggen, Roy Goodman, and Ton Koopman. He has performed in Europe, America, the Far East, and Australia. He is a member of the Amsterdam Baroque Trio and performs as a duo with the pianist Paolo Giacometti. He has conducted various Dutch and European orchestras. Schneemann teaches the oboe at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He is the artistic director of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble [Nederlands Blazers Ensemble] and has greatly broadened the scope of its capabilities and repertoire.

Bart Schneemann is born in Melbourne, Australia.
1977 - 1990
He comes to the Netherlands for his education and completes his oboe studies in 1977. In the following years, he performs successively with the Amsterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra (principal oboist), Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (principal oboist), and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (principal oboist). He begins the Fodor Quintet. He also becomes a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and in 1987 is appointed its artistic director. In 1990 he becomes a teacher at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, a position he still holds.

Schneemann wins the prestigious 3M Music Prize, in part for his talent at playing the music of different styles and periods.
1994
He performs Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Oboe Concerto' in Saint Petersburg with the Mariinsky Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev.
1995
Schneemann decides to devote himself more to the Baroque oboe and revise his approach to Baroque music. With the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra he performs Luciano Berio's oboe concerto 'Chemins IV' (1975).
1996
He resigns as principal oboist of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra to focus more on his solo career and his involvement with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble. He signs a contract with the Channel Classics CD label. At a Saturday Matinee concert in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, he performs Hans Werner Henze's 'Double Concerto for Oboe, Harp and Strings' (1966).
1997
Schneemann makes his debut conducting Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam.
1999
He performs the premiere of 'Childhood Revisited', a work written for him by Giya Kancheli, with Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam at a Saturday Matinee concert in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
2001
He plays 'Anachronie II' (1969), the oboe concerto by Louis Andriessen, with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra at the Vredenburg Music Centre in Utrecht. He also presents 'Rondos and Interludes' (2001), a commissioned work composed by Gilius van Bergeijk, during a Saturday Matinee concert at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
2002
De Doelen concert hall in Rotterdam gives Schneemann carte blanche for the programming of a two-day festival. In it, he plays the oboe and conducts, performing among other works the premiere of 'Architectural Cadences' (2002), a commissioned work by Otto Ketting. At the Vredenburg Music Centre he plays Elliot Carter's 'Concerto for Oboe' with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra. During a recital at the Early Music Festival in Utrecht, he performs for the first time on both a classical and a modern oboe.
2005
He records Mozart's 'Gran Partita' with the Netherlands Wind Ensemble for the NBELive label. The CD receives an Edison Award in 2007.
2006
He performs the world premiere of 'NONcerto', by Richard Ayres, at a Saturday Matinee concert at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
2008
With the Metropole Orchestra, Schneemann plays Willem Breuker's oboe concerto 'Wuivend riet' [Waving Reed, 2002] at the Vredenburg Music Centre. He is the artist-in-residence at the Amsterdam Conservatory, an appointment he ends in May 2008 with the Wild Blossom Festival, a collaborative effort between the classical, jazz and pop departments.
2009
Schneemann becomes the artistic director of the chamber music festival in Middelburg. He records a CD of George Frederic Handel arias with the soprano Johannette Zomer.
