Formerly known as Grand Prix Of the Netherlands talent show winners Redivider, Alamo Race Track is scheduled to release its debut album in the first half of 2003.
2001
Nomden and Corel also play with Johan. Nomden, Lucieer and Corel can also be heard on the demo of the Dutch-language singer-songwriter Emanuel Carmona. In October the band officially announces its break-up. Because of Nomden's move to Johan, the remaining band members decide to set out a new musical course under the name Morning Star. Morning Star debuts at the first edition of the Amsterdam music conference A2A. When UK band Morning Star releases an album their Dutch counterparts decide to change their name in Alamo Race Track.
2002
Alamo Race Track's long expected debut album is scheduled for release in the first half of 2003 (Excelsior Recordings).
2003
Alamo Race Track plays at the annual Noorderslagfestival. Lucieer can be heard on Nu ('Now'), Emanuel Carmona's full-length debut album. Alamo Race Track plays the annual Noorderslag Festival and also wins an Essent Music Award. Corel guests on Daryll-Ann's Trailer Tales and Lucieer can be heard on Nu ('Now') from Carmona and De Mannen ('The Men') by Bram Vermeulen. While recording their debut album Alamo Race Track also plays the music of Joy Division and The Buzzcocks on the Dutch premiere parties for the music film 24 Hour Party People. In June the band plays at the Music In My Head festival in The Hague. Late August the band's eagerly awaited debut Birds At Home comes out. In the same period Alamo Race Track also plays the Lowlands festival. Also, it does a series of UK gigs, including one show at Manchester's conference In The City in August and another one at the MusicWorks conference in Glasgow in November.
2004
Alamo Race Track plays at the Noorderslag. In March the band goes to Austin, Texas, to perform at South By South West (SXSW).
2005
Released at home in 2003 by Excelsior Recordings, now two years on the fabulous debut album Birds At Home by Amsterdam's alt.rock combo Alamo Race Track is out in France through Fargo Records. The album, which marries Radiohead to the Strokes, is getting rave reviews in la douce France, especially in rock magazine/site Les Inrockuptibles, where it is Album of the Day on April 20. In June Radio France playlists the track We Like To Go On. By the end of June ART embarks on a short tour in Greater Paris, including a show at Le Rock dans tous ses Etats festival (June 25-26) plus a show at Paris club Nouveau Casino on June 28. For the autumn another French tour is scheduled. Meanwhile the band starts recording its second album in mid May, again with Frans Hagenaars in the producer's seat.
2006
Labour uses the intro to Happy Accidents in a commercial for the local elections in Amsterdam. In May Alamo Race Track and Blues Brother Castro tour Holland as a double bill. In June both bands release a split-7". It's the first single in a series of three to come out in 2006 under the banner of Dutch Indies Singles Club (DISC), a collaboration between four indies, Excelsior, Living Room, Rara and Zabel. The singles are freebies to be obtained at double bill shows. A video of the title track of new album Black Cat John Brown (out in October), filmed at an impromptu rehearsal room session, becomes a YouTube hit in September. Within a week it is downloaded more than 160.000 times.
2007
In March Alamo Race Track returns to SXSW for its second appearance. In the same month the track Black Cat John Brown is featured on the 19th episode of successful US TV series Grey's Anatomy. In July the album Black Cat John Brown comes out in the US through the Minty Fresh label. American media like Tripwire, Magnet and the leading Village Voice are enthusiastic. The US release is supported by several shows in August in New York and Los Angeles. In Europe, Alamo Race Track plays festivals such as Dour (Belgium), Lowlands (the Netherlands) and Popkomm in Berlin. Bassist David Corel leaves the band to travel around the world for an undisclosed period of time. He is replaced by Djurre de Haan (who is also active as a singer-songwriter under the name awkward i). The band returns to the US for the CMJ festival and an extensive tour. In December the band contributes to Nightwriters, a literary programme featuring several Dutch authors that tours the clubs in the Netherlands.
2008
In January Alamo Race Track is on the bill of the Eurosonic festival in Groningen, the Netherlands. In March of this year, the band travels to Texas for the third time for a show at the South By Southwest festival. During shows at festival De Parade the band performs special versions of their own songs and also covers by acts such as Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and The Velvet Underground. 2010
Alamo Race Track composes music for a theatre show called Innenschau by director Jakop Ahlbom. The characters in this play are driven by fantasies and secret desires in a thriller-like setting. Starting February, the band also goes on tour with Innenschau in a slightly different line-up with guitarist/singer Ralph Mulder and guitarist Leonard Lucieer, bassist Jelte van Andel and drummer Robin Buijs. Parts of the play also end up on Alamo Race Track's third album. In July Innenschau is the opening act of the International Young Directors Program of the Salzburger Festspiele 2010.
2011
Alamo Race Track's third album Unicorn Loves Deer is released in March. The album gets a five star review in the national newspaper De Volkskrant and a positive review in the American music magazine Filter. After finishing a Dutch club tour and playing at the main theatre festival Oerol on the Dutch island Terschelling, Alamo Race Track joins Canadian band The Weakerthans for a tour through Great Britain and Germany. The kick-off is in The Garage in London on June 23. In the meantime temporary bass player Djurre de Haan is replaced by Peter Akkerman. Akkerman has studied bass at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Amsterdam School Of The Arts) and audio engineering at the SAE Instituut (the institute for practical creative media education in Amsterdam). Next to Alamo Race Track Akkerman plays in the bands of singer-songwriters Pien Feith and Daan Hofman.
2012
Returning from a short German tour Ralph Mulder and Leonard Lucieer take part in the theatrical performance Lebensraum by Swedish theatre director Jakob Ahlbom. The performance is inspired by the silent movies of actor/director Buster Keaton. The Lebensraum tour continues in September and October. Alamo Race Track accompany How Long Is Now by Conny Janssen Danst, a dance performance about a world where the past exists in the memory and the future in desire. How Long Is Now is the opening of the Zeeland Nazomerfestival on August 21, using a machine factory as location.
