An adventurous and experimental rock band from The Hague.
Even before the song The Gift is released on single the video is already announced 'video of the week' by music station TMF. Guitarist Gijsbert Diteweg (ex-No Joke) joins the band and Venus Flytrap starts experimenting with a sampler.
The song Radical Dream brings the band to the attention of public Radio 3 FM. Its self-released demo is regarded as one of the best 12 demos of the year by Music Maker.
Venus Flytrap goes into the Next To Jaap studio to start recordings for the album This Is Your Exit Plan. While recording the band experiments a lot and even records one of its songs in a field next to the studio. The album comes out on the Fount Records label. The songs Disappearance Of A Normal Man and Man In A Jar are also released on single.
Venus Flytrap breaks with Fount Records and signs to My First Sonny Weissmuller Recordings.
The band's second album Hoovering is released late May. Guitarist Gijsbert Diteweg writes almost half of the songs. Hoovering is recorded with and produced by Corno Zwetsloot. Venus Flytrap is one of the first bands to play in totally renovated local club Paard in The Hague. During this show they are backed by keyboard player Jeroen Keereweer and trumpet player Pascal Janssen. Together with the other My First Sonny Weissmuller acts Venus Flytrap tours the Dutch clubs. The band also supports Australian band The Sleepy Jackson and US band The Long Winters.
In March Venus Flytrap plays at the South By South West (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas.
The North East USA May Tour takes the band along cities like Washington DC and Philadelphia in May. The tour ends with four shows in New York. In 2006 keyboard player Peter 'Pike' van Kemenade joins the band.
Third album Come With Us is produced by Corno Zwetsloot. The record is released in September on label My First Sonny Weissmuller Recordings. It features contributions by the Residentie Brassband.
The band's 2008 shows include several ones as support act: Dead Meadow (from Los Angeles) in Utrecht (12 March), two shows with The Boss Martians from Seattle, The Kills in the Melkweg (22 March) and British band Wire in Zwolle (May). In the summer the album Come With Us is also released in the United States.
In March Venus Flytrap leaves for Canada for a short tour, including a show at the Canadian Music Week 2009 in Toronto. Back in the Netherlands the band works on new material and the band members are also involved in other projects. In November, Venus Flytrap and producer Henk Koorn (Hallo Venray) go into the studio for recordings of a new album. The band focuses more on electronic music with an important role for keyboard player Pike.
