1996

On August 14 Trijntje Oosterhuis (born Judith Katrijntje Oosterhuis) from the band Total Touch performs solo at the opening party of the Amsterdam ArenA, the new home of world champion Ajax Amsterdam football club. In the presence of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, she sings the ballad De Zee ('The Sea'), which becomes a big hit and gains her a lot of media attention.

1997

During The Night Of The Proms Trijntje sings a duet with American rapper Coolio. She is also featured in a commercial for a Dutch insurance company together with Candy Dulfer. In May it is announced that Trijntje has fallen ill with glandular fever. She receives a TMF Music Award for Best Female Singer.

1998

Trijntje sings a duet with Herman Brood and also records the songs Saturday Night and Fire & Rain. Late November the children's film Abeltje is premiered. Tjeerd Oosterhuis, Trijntje's brother and composer of Total Touch, writes the theme song Vlieg Met Me Mee ('Fly With Me') that is released on single under the name Trijntje Oosterhuis.

1999

Despite investing lots of money in expensive videos Total Touch fails to make it big in the international music scene. This leads to frustrations within the band and consequently a temporary break-up between Trijntje and Tjeerd in the spring of this year. Trijntje performs at the 24th North Sea Jazz festival with Herbie Hancock. In September she tours the country with Stevie Wonder songs, which is part of the popular Marlboro Flashbacks series. An album with these songs is also released this year.

2000

Trijntje's (inofficial debut) solo album with Stevie Wonder songs becomes gold. She wins the Hitkrant Music Award Best Female Singer and plays a one-off gig with jazz pianist Michiel Borstlap. She also plays with the New Cool Collective Big Band during the Swingin' Groningen festival and is also featured on the album Big! by the New Cool Collective.

2001

In the autumn Trijntje kicks off a solo tour of the Dutch theatres. Her band includes Allan Eshuijs (backing vocals), Lodewijk van Gorp (backing vocals), Jasmine Tusjadia (backing vocals), Ronald Kool (piano) and Marnix Stassen (percussion).

2002

In March Trijntje tours the Dutch theatres with Michiel Borstlap. She signs to EMI. In April Trijntje, Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen perform We Are The Champions in Amsterdam during the festivities for the birthday of the Dutch queen.

2003

Together with De Houdini's and Nieuw Sinfonietta Trijntje Oosterhuis plays a series of jazzy live shows, dubbed 'Billies Blues.' The set is based on the 'Big American Songbook' by the likes of Billie Holiday and George Gershwin. In March Trijntje's official first solo album comes out. Guest musicians include brother Tjeerd, John Ewbank, James Hallawell (producer of Wet Wet Wet) and composer Blair Mackichan. Trijntje Oosterhuis also contributes a song to the charity CD Hoop! Peace Songs Voor War Child, which comes out in April. On stage Trijntje is backed by Allan Eshuijs (backing vocals/keyboards), Lodewijk van Gorp (backing vocals/sax), Jasmine Tusjadia (backing vocals), Cyril Directie (drums), Ronald Kool (keyboards), Aram Kersbergen (bass) and Ulco Bed (guitar). After the birth of crown princess Catharina-Amalia on December 7 Trijntje Oosterhuis, Carel Kraayenhof and violinist Janine Jansen release the John Ewbank song Totdat Jij Er Was ('Until You Came'). Proceeds of the single go to charity.

2004

The album Strange Fruit is a live recording of songs by Billie Holiday and George Gershwin. The album is recorded with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Houdini's and is released on the world-renowned jazz label Blue Note. On 10 February Trijntje receives a Gouden ('Golden') Harp music award. Trijntje sings on her brother Tjeerd's soundtrack to the Ruud van Hemert-directed film Feestje! ('Party Time!'). EMI launches its 'anchor woman' Trijntje Oosterhuis internationally. Her 'difficult' name is slightly changed to its phonetically correct equivalent Traincha. First album to be part of this cross border exploitation is her gold (superaudio) album Strange Fruit. In September the singer gives birth to a son named Jonas. The DVD A Thousand Days: Live And Unplugged is released. Among the 26 songs on the DVD are songs by Total Touch, several jazz classics and Stevie Wonder, Sting and Luther Vandross covers. The singer is accompanied by Hans Eijkenaar (drums), Aram Kersbergen (contrabass), Ronald Kool (piano) and Leonardo Amuedo (guitar). Strange Fruit is still holding in the album charts after a year. Its peak position is at number 2.

2005

Along with DJ Tiësto, Dinand Woesthoff, Bløf, Acda & De Munnik, Di-rect, Berget Lewis and Xander de Buisonjé, Trijntje Oosterhuis plays on the benefit for the Tsunami victims in Asia on January 6 on the Dam Square in Amsterdam. Trijntje Oosterhuis is one of the vocalists on Als Je Iets Kan Doen ('If You Can Do Something') the benefit single for the Tsunami victims. Her brother Tjeerd is the composer of the song. On February 14 Trijntje Oosterhuis wins an Edison Award in the category Best Female Singer. The album See You As I Do - in her own words 'a singer/songwriter pop album' - is recorded in her home studio. Her band consists of Aram Kersbergen (bass guitar/stand-up bass), Ronald Kool (piano), Hans Eijkenaar (drums) and Arnold van Dongen (guitar). James Hallawell (UK) is credited as producer. Guests include Leonardo Amuedo, Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective), Candy Dulfer, Toots Thielemans and US singer Keith John (out of Stevie Wonder's entourage).

2006

The single Where Is The Love? is a duet with US singer/guitarist Raúl Midón. The track is also included on both new updates of Trijntje's album See You As I Do and Midón's CD State Of Mind. Burt Bacharach plays the piano on several songs on the album The Look Of Love (Burt Bacharach Songbook), the second album of the singer on the Blue Note jazz label. The album enters the Dutch album Top 100 at number one. In December she tours the Dutch theatres with the Metropole Orchestra, singing songs out of the Burt Bacharach songbook plus Christmas(-related) repertoire. In December Oosterhuis tours the Dutch theatres with the Metropole Orchestra with Burt Bacharach material complemented with Christmas songs. The arrangements are written by Patrick Williams and Vince Mendoza, chief conductor of the Metropole Orchestra.

2007

On April 6 Trijntje Oosterhuis and the Metropole Orchestra play the Heineken Music Hall. The singer also performs at the second edition of the Concert At SEA festival. Oosterhuis sings the duet What A Little Moonlight Can Do on Kim Is Back on the debut album by 14-year old singer Kim, daughter of pianist Erwin Hoorweg of the Houdini's. Trijntje Oosterhuis travels to Los Angeles to work on a second CD with composer Burt Bacharach. She also sings two duets on Nederlanders (Dutchmen), the 150th album by Herman van Veen.

2008

Trijntje Oosterhuis plays several theatre shows in January. The second Bacharach Songbook includes the song Who'll Speak For Love which is especially written for the album by Burt Bacharach who also plays piano on the track. Oosterhuis is accompanied by the Metropole Orchestra and the arrangements are by Patrick Williams. Trijntje Oosterhuis accompanies Bacharach during his tour in Japan in February. Following this tour the singer tours the Dutch theatres with guitarist Leonardo Amuedo. The setlist includes Bacharach compositions, but also Dutch language songs De Zee (The Sea) and Vlieg Met Me Mee (Fly With Me). One of the shows from this tour is released on CD/DVD with the title Ken Je Mij (Do You Know Me). The single Face In The Crowd is a duet with Lionel Richie. The track is written by John Ewbank. The song is the title track of Symphonica In Rosso and is also performed by the duo during the series of concerts in the first week of September at the Gelredome in Arnhem. Trijntje Oosterhuis contributes to the album Memorias De Cuba by Carel Kraayenhof and sings the Spanish song Lagrimas Negras. She also sings the track Nooit Gedacht (Never Would Have Thought) for TV series S1ngle.

2009

The album Just Go from Lionel Richie includes the track Face In The Crowd, a duet with Trijntje Oosterhuis. Trijntje also sings on the CD Rosa by Leonardo Amuedo and mouth organ player Antonio Serrano. During The Hague Jazz in May Oosterhuis performs twice: once with Brazilian composer Ivan Lins and once with pianist Karel Boehlee. Oosterhuis also performs with Burt Bacharach at the North Sea Jazz festival in July. Leonardo Amuedo and Trijntje Oosterhuis play a special Unicef concert on 1 September. Trijntje Oosterhuis and guitarist Leonardo Amuedo record several of Trijntje's favourite Michael Jackson songs. These end up on the album Never Can Say Goodbye.
