Biography The Thought

New wave group that rises out of the ashes of the Rousers. The band's style is characterised by the influence of '60s pop music.

1982 - 1983

The Thought After a sabbatical year Wieb Zigtema and the De Jong brothers (formerly the Rousers) form the Thought. Although the Thought sounds quite different than the Rousers, the concept is still the same: New wave music that is heavily influenced by '60s music. Initially playing a combination of beat and punk, on its debut album the Thought combines psychedelics and the subdued music of bands like Wire and Joy Division. Producer Dick Polak (from the band Mecano) puts an important mark on the band's sound.

1984 - 1986

In 1984 bassist Rob Marienus joins the band. The Thought's second album, which is also simply called The Thought, just like the band's debut, is produced by the American Craig Leon (Blondie, the Ramones). The album is characterised by the bombastic sound typical for first part of the '80s. Partly due to the cover of the psychedelic I Had Too Much To Dream (13th Floor Elevators) it becomes a bit of a cult album at the US underground radio stations. The band fails to break the US market, however. After the release of the third and last LP the band breaks up in late 1986. Wieb Zigtema forms Shoot The Moon, initially together with Rob Marienus, who sadly dies in 1990 of a heart attack. Later Zigtema also involves other former Rousers. In the late '90s Cock de Jong and his brother Theo and artist Hans de Boom form the Shavers.
