The Scene is formed by Thé Lau.

1980

The Scene records the self-titled debut album, which contains songs in both the Dutch and English language. The singles It's The Beat and Allied Cigarettes/Stappen ('Steps') are self-released.

1985

Due to a lack of commercial success it takes until 1985 before the band's second album This Is Real comes out.

1986

The self-released single S.E.X. comes out.

1987

The single Ritme Wereld ('Rhythm World') is released.

1988

The album Rij Rij Rij ('Drive, Drive, Drive') is released. The songs Borderline (a Madonna cover), Rij Rij Rij ('Drive, Drive, Drive') and Rauw, Hees En Teder ('Raw, Hoarse and Tender') are released as singles.

1990

The band signs to major label Phonogram. The album Blauw ('Blue') is released and the songs Blauw and Rigoureus ('Rigorous') are released as singles. De single Iedereen Is Van De Wereld ('Everyone Belongs to the World') will become a classic.

1991

The single Blauw climbs the Dutch charts. In July the band plays at New Musical Seminar in New York. For this occasion Lau translates the songs into English. The band receives an Edison Music Award for Blauw.

1992

The follow-up to Blauw is the critically acclaimed Open for which the band also receives an Edison Music Award. The singles Zuster ('Sister') and Open dent the charts.

The Scene is awarded the 1992 Popprijs ('Pop Prize'). The album Avenue de la Scene is released.

A video and a live album, titled The Scene are released.

The band goes into the studio to record a new album.

Arena is released. Sales, however, are disappointing.

The Scene receives a Gouden ('Golden') Harp.

The album Marlene comes out.

The single Wondermooi ('Beautiful') and the live CD 1998 are released.

Thé Lau

2000

The single Helden ('Heroes') is used for a commercial in campaign to promote social consciousness. The compilation album Rauw, Hees En Teder ('Raw, Hoarse and Tender') is released. Lau debuts as novelist.

2001

Thé Lau tours with his solo show De Sterren Van De Hemel ('The Stars in the Sky').

2002

Lau closes a recording deal with Sony Music and releases his solo album De God Van Nederland ('The God Of The Netherlands'), which contains a duet with K's Choice's Sarah Bettens.

2003

The 140-page book Thé Lau - De Teksten ('The Lyrics') with liner notes by Bløf's Peter Slager and Belgian journalist Bart Steenhaut contains all of Lau's song lyrics. Fans can buy the book on-line or at Lau's live shows. Drummer Jeroen Booy's band Skelter releases its first CD.

Emilie Blom van Assendelft plays bass in the Camp Girls, a band spearheaded TV personality Manuëla Kemp alongside singers Lies Schilp and Inge Bonthont, guitarist Tessa Boomkamp and drummer Leslie Borgers. The Camp Girls are contenders in the pre-selection of the Eurovision Song Contest. On February 12 they sing a Frédérique Spigt and Jan van der Meij-written song. However, they're not winning.

2007

Five years after the split, The Scene gets back together. In May a new CD is released and in the summer the band is available for festivals in the Netherlands and Belgium. The band's line-up is Thé Lau, Emilie Blom van Assendelft on bass guitar, Jeroen Booy on drums and Otto Cooymans on keyboard. The album 2007 consists of adaptations of classic songs from The Scene and two new songs. Guest musicians on the album are Paskal Jakobsen from Bløf (on Iedereen Is Van De Wereld) and Belgian singers Sarah Bettens (on Blauw) and Tom Barman (on Rigoureus).

2009 - 2010

The Scene releases a new album in October called Liefde Op Doorreis (Love Passing Through). In 2010 the album is followed by an extensive Dutch and Flemish tour.
