1987 - 1996

Cee Major (alias Cor Giesing) and Omar Rey decide to start a band. DJ Leroy, a cousin of Omar, takes care of the beats and the equipment.

1997

The first demo, Speakeroom EP, comes out. The track What I'm Not, released by CMC/Soul Relation, gets a lot of airplay on the New York Radio's Stretch & Bobbito Show.

Skate the Great

1998

The Proov opens for Organized Konfusion and Tha Alkaholiks and plays at the Frozen Land and Planet Rock festivals. DJ Leroy leaves and the band signs to CMC Records.

Gertjan Mulder

1999

The first tracks for the Traditions EP are recorded. The Proov gets help from Skate The Great, Rescue, Couzin Steve, Brainpower and Murth Tha Man-O-Script.

Skate the Great

2000

DJ S-Dub (Sander Schalk) and rapper Gumshoe (Sven Willemsen) join the band. The Proov contributes a song for the compilation album This Is What You Want Part II. The Traditions EP is released and gets raving reviews. The song Feel The Heat is released on single. The track is part of a Nike commercial promoting Euro 2002, the European Championships football. Guest rapper on this track is MC Colombo (Raphael da Cruz). The British director Nick Gordon films the 3D video for the song, which also stars Dutch footballers Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Dries Boussatta. The Proov performs in the Nike Park in Amsterdam and at the Lowlands festival. The album Traditions comes out in November.

2001

The album Traditions is re-released by the CMC/Soul Relation label.

2002

The Proov records the live CD Reality Check.

2003

The three-track maxi-single Nebula is released. Gumshoe starts imPROOVment records which releases the single Two Entropies in November.

2004

After various try-outs in 2003 The Proov performs with a live band again. The line-up consists of two MCs, drums/sampler, a bassist and a DJ. In the fall the new (third) album comes out on the imPROOVment label.

2005

The follow-up to Traditions is called Battle Mode, an album that features both warm and soulful songs as well as club tracks. For this album rappers Gumshoe and CeeMajor have worked with Colt, L Geronimo, Nicolay (Foreign Exchange), Mercury Waters (from Baltimore) and Kid Sublime. The album also features guest appearances by Couzin Steve, Incksalonius (Brooklyn, USA), Dee Ferguson and DJ Kypski.

2006

At the end of April Utrecht-based label Flyin' High releases the 12'' Raise Your Fist/One Off by Dogdaze. The Proov provides raps on the title track, while DJ Leroy Rey remixes the flip side. The music is described as 'broken hiphop with a techno feel'. In June Gumshoe and DJ Sdub support J-Live (US).

2007

The Proov travels to New York for shows on May 16, 17 and 19, among which a support slot for Brooklyn's rapper Incksalonius at her Flow Circuit showcase. While in NY, the Proov also contributes to her album. On August 25 the band plays at the dance festival Mystery Land. Gumshoe produces the digital TV show 12inches, commissioned by 101.tv and BNN. Fourth album Griddy is planned for an October release.
