From 1937 until approximately 1980 Ado Broodboom (Amsterdam, 14 November 1922) is active as a trumpeter in many combos and big bands. In 1941 he graduates from the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he has studied classical trumpet with Marinus Komst. It isn't until the end of WW II that he can start out as a jazz musician. Ruud Brink (Haarlem, 9 August 1937 – Haarlem, 29 June 1990) teaches himself to play the clarinet at the age of thirteen, and soon becomes a professional musician. Inspired by clarinetist Dim Kesber he starts out playing Dixieland, but when he discovers modern jazz, the saxophonists making up The Brothers in the Woody Herman band become his new role models. ' drummer Kees Kranenburg as a boy, Ilcken is self-taught. After the war he joins tenor saxophonist Piet van Dijk's band, in which his wife, Rita Reys, is the singer. With Piet van Dijk they tour Spain and Northern Africa. In 1950 they start the Rita Reys Sextet, which performs highly successfully in Great Britain and at American military bases in Europe and Northern Africa.
