Amsterdam-based trio T-99 is one of the most important Dutch innovators of roots music with their mixture of raw psychedelic desert rock, blues and rhythm & blues. The plays in a traditional rock line-up of bass, guitar and drums supplemented with mandolin, ukulele, boxes and buckets.
Debut album Coo-Coo (2001) is released via the progressive blues label Cool Buzz and gets positive reviews from the international music press. The band plays gigs in the Netherlands (support for Dr. John), Belgium, Germany, France and Switzerland. For the recording of follow-up Strange Things Happen (2004) T-99 travels to Tucson, Arizona, to work with producer/musician Teddy Morgan, Dave Gonzales from The Paladins and Jimmy Carr. T-99 play renowned festivals like North Sea Jazz, the Rhythm & Blues festival in Peer (Belgium), Eurosonic, Popkomm in Berlin, Moulin Blues, Blues Passions (France) and the Cahors Blues festival (France). Third album Cherrystone Park (September 2005) is also produced by Teddy Morgan. In December T-99 kicks off a short three-day tour of Germany and Switzerland.
In January T-99 plays at both the Eurosonic and Noorderslag festival in Groningen, the Netherlands. Two tracks from Cherrystone Park and two tracks from Strange Things Happen are released as a 10".
With their 13-track album Vagabonds (May) the trio is back at the Cool Buzz label. In the summer they appear live at Berlin's Roadrunner's Paradise (July 7), while they support Dr John twice (in Amsterdam in July and in Zoetermeer). On September 8 they play at the Belgian Blue Moon Festival. On 18 November T-99 is support act for Chuck Berry in club 013 in Tilburg. Vagabonds is picked up by DJ Mark Lamarr and played on his BBC 2 radio show. The album is also released in Great Britain.
In April, Vagabonds is released in Europe, the United States and Canada via Nugene Records. Early May, T-99 goes on a short tour of Great Britain. The band also performs a session in the BBC 2 studio for Mark Lamarr's radio show. Late August, T-99 performs at the 3daysOn festival in the Netherlands with the German electronica musician Michael Fakesch from Funkstörung.
In the spring T-99 plays several shows together with mixed-media collective EAST74 (Arjen Hosper and Martijn Vorstenbosch) and the Paradiso Melkweg Productionhouse (PMP). The band plays during Celluloid Fever: The Freak live accompanying film footage and play by actors Rixt Leddy, Elisa Beuger and Jorrit Ruijs in the story about Tod Browning, the American director of cult films Dracula (1931) and Freaks (1932).
