Biography Suimasen

Trio that has formed from the remains of illustrious Dutch bands Alabama Kids, The New Creatures, 35007 and 7Zuma7. They play a mix of post rock and psychedelics in which dynamics, dissonant chords, and melancholy play an important role.

1998 - 1999

Suimasen is formed by Rob van den Brand and Nick Sanders who were formerly in The New Creatures, and Jacco van Rooy who used to play the drums in bands like Alabama Kids and 35007. Sanders and Van Rooy also play in stoner rock band 7Zuma7. The name Suimasen (pronounce: Suwiemasèn) comes from a song from Blonde Redhead and is Japanese for 'I'm sorry'. In the Spring of 1999 Suimasen releases the demo 'The Beat Goes On'. Major influences are Motorpsycho, Blonde Redhead and Sonic Youth.

7Zuma7 Alabama Kids

2000

7Zuma7 breaks up. Suimasen records its debut album with producer Pieter 'Pidah' Kloos (Motorpsycho, 7Zuma7). On this album, which has no title, Suimasen combines post rock with neo-psychedelics. The Dutch press is unanimously positive about the album.

2001

Suimasen releases its second album Flow.

2002

Suimasen receives an Essent Award and gets lots of airplay on both TV and radio. They play at the Noorderslag festival and tour the Netherlands with fellow Dutch band Incense.

2004

By cutting six tracks in April, pre-production starts for a new album, slated for release later in the year.

2006

Drummer Jacco van Rooij joins Norway's Motorpsycho on tour, starting in April.

2009

Suimasen In February Suimasen continues with the recordings that the band had started in 2004. On 10 September the band plays its first show in seven years in club Effenaar in Eindhoven. During the show the band plays a lot of new songs from the upcoming Stay. The band also makes use of samples.
