Biography Steve Rachmad

DJ from Amsterdam who belongs to the top of the Dutch techno scene.

1995

Rachmad works on various techno styles under the names Sterac (on the label 100% Pure label), Tons Of Tones (Urban Sound Of Amsterdam), Steve Rachmad Project (Outland), Parallel 9, Black Scorpio, Ignacio and Publiq Space. He also releases records on the labels M-Plant and R&S. The album Tons Of Tones comes out, a compilation of twelve inch tracks from his Tons of Tones alias.

1996

The album Secret Life Of Machines (by Sterac) is released.

1998

In December Rachmad plays a DJ set during Chemistry in club Escape in Amsterdam. Emerging is released. It's the first record in a series of DJ mix sets and is mixed live in club Mazzo. Rachmad starts investing more time in his DJ career. He plays at the Melkweg (HQ) and Mazzo and also during the Chemistry nights. He can also be seen at festivals like Dance Valley and Mysteryland. He is also a regular in The End in London. Rachmad starts his own label: Rachmad Music and closes a distribution deal with EMI.

2001

The compilation In The Mix contains, besides Rachmad's own productions, remixes of his favourite dance tracks.

2003

Steve Rachmad, Laidback Luke, Ronald Molendijk, Joost van Bellen, Lemon8 and Aardvarck make a remix of the St. Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach. The music piece is performed on April 17 in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. The DJ's describe the project as an adventure in sound, of which some parts are quite suitable for dancing while other parts are a mix of complex structures and innovative rhythms. Rachmad is one of the acts at the Awakenings Festival that takes places on October 11 at the NDSM Warehouse in Amsterdam.

2004

Under the name Ignacio the Music Man label releases the 12" Evolving/Sambing in the spring. Maluma/Malhela is a 12" out of the Scorp series on the same-named label. Rachmad uses the name Sterac for the More Or Less EP on the Ion label. Under the Sterac Electronics guise he produces the Atlantis EP for the Interpersonal XP label.

2005

By the names of Sterac, Sterac Electronics and Parallel 9 Steve Rachmad respectively releases the EP's Heaven's Mouth, Night Heat and Dominus. In 2006 Steve Rachmad celebrates his 25th anniversary in music with a world tour commencing at Innercity at Amsterdam's RAI arena on December 17.

2006

For his 25 Years In Music world tour Rachmad travels Europe and then he's off to South-America, the US, Asia and Australia. He goes back to places that have been decisive in his career. Belgium's Music Man Records releases his new album, while Get Physical Records puts out Sterac Electronics' remix of the track Body Language by M.A.N.D.Y. & Booka Shade. In April he contributes to the dance version of Johann Sebastian Bach's the Matthäus Passion New Generation Remix 2006. Steve Rachmad records music for a Dutch commercial for charity organisation One Men. In June, Rachmad and Heiko Laux produce the track Shared Wave in the Laux' studio in Berlin. The mix ends up on Laux's new album Waves (October) and the Rachmad mix is released on a limited edition 12". The club night by Off The Record take place in Studio 80 in Amsterdam. Rachmad's album Neo Classica comes out on the Sino label. The record is released mid-December in Asia and is promoted there with shows in Tokyo (22 December) and Osaka (23 December).

2007

After its Asia release, Neo Classica also comes out in the rest of the world. The album comes with a tour that kicks off in club Rex in Paris. Late April a two-track mini EP is released on Music Man Records: Moog On Acid/Horny. The mix album that Steve Rachmad compiles for the June edition of British dance magazine DJ Mag only features Dutch artists and is recorded live during a set at the Sugar Factory in Amsterdam, as part of the project Satellite 31. On 29 September performs at Awakenings for the 32nd time. Under the name Parallel 9, the producer releases the tracks Technique and Technic on the label a.r.t.less. The tracks were originally produced in 1997 and remastered for this edition by 2000 And One (Dylan Hermelijn).

2008

The Rond Bot EP (April), under the name Sterac, is the first release on the Amsterdam label Delsin. The DJ ends his tour in April in Brazil. The 12" Surdosong/Square Garden comes out on EC Recordings, the label of Michel de Hey who is also responsible for one of the remixes. Rachmad remixes the track Can You Relate by Swedish producer Samuel L Session.

2009

The track Hidden Alleys is released as an A-side of an EP on Saved Records as part of a mix album that Joel Mull compiles for the March issue of iDJ magazine. Steve Rachmad again collaborates with producer Heiko Laux, which results in the two track EP Hutspot/Stamppot (May), released on Truesoul Records, Drumcode sublabel. With Systematic Denial the producer contributes a track to 5YSYST (5 Years Of Systematic), a compilation that celebrates the fifth anniversary of Systematic Recordings. The compilation features tech house from more than twenty international house producers.
