Hendrik Jan Bökkers is a student at the Dutch Rock Academy. With fellow music students Arn Kortooms (bass) and Bauke Bakker (drums) he records a demo. When they are joined by keyboard player and psychology student Erik Neimeijer Soundsurfer is born. In November Soundsurfer organizes a showcase, which brings them into contact with K's Choice drummer Koen Lieckens, who also happens to be a teacher at the Rock Academy. He brings them into contact with Double T. Music.
Double T. Music becomes Idol. Soundsurfer is the first band to be signed by the new label. In the summer the group goes into the studio to start recordings for its debut album. The demo version of the track This Is For The One is listed on the Dutch Rock & Pop Institute-released compilation CD series 'Demontage.' The single Never Said A Word precedes the band's debut album. Soundsurfer is nominated for an Essent Music Award. Bökkers drops out of school so he can concentrate fully on his band.
Soundsurfer plays at the Noorderslag festival. By the end of March Soundsurfer's second single, Don't Push Me, which is taken from the album Allow Me, comes out.
In February Soundsurfer goes to Ronda, Spain, to start working on its second album in the El Choque Ideal studio. Contrary to its debut album, this time around the band wont use samples and programmed beats. The CD Nude comes out in September. It is previewed by heavy single Water In A Drain.
Guitarist/singer Hendrik Jan joins 'farmer rockers' Jovink en de Voederbietels. On February 25 at Tilburg's 013 club the band plays for the last time in its original line-up. Drummer Bauke Bakker leaves the band in May in order to join 16Down. Dries Bijlsma (ex-The Fuzz), who is also known as hiphop producer (Typhoon), replaces him. The new line-up only lasts for a very short time. In the summer already they call it quits. Guitarist Erik Nijmeijer, drummer Bauke Bakker (16Down) and bassist Sebastiaan van Olst form the trio Cool Genius. Bakker and his brothers Stein en Tiddo also play in cover band Bakzilla! Bassist Arn Kortooms joins Amsterdam-based pop band a balladeer.
