Silkstone houdt ermee op (6/25/09)
Rock band that has been together for several years when they finally break through in the spring of 2002 with the single Ready.
Guitarists Niels Geusenbroek and Frans van Essen decide to form a band when they are still in high school. Together with a couple of fellow students they start by playing covers. Then Silkstone is invited to play a live session on Radio 3FM. They play the song Beautiful live and listeners can also hear the demo track Liquid Love. Because the studio is rather small, they are forced to play an acoustic set. They enjoy this so much that they decide to swap their grunge sound for their newly found pop sound.
Bassist Maurice leaves the band and is replaced by Daniël Van Luipen. Silkstone is also joined by keyboard player Paul van Twisk. Silkstone is spotted by BMG when supporting Dutch rock band Kane.
Silkstone supports Kane in a sold-out Nighttown in Rotterdam. In July the band signs to BMG and in August the official fan club, Silkies, is formed.
On March 8 BMG releases the single Ready. The song is chosen Mega Hit (=power play record of the week) on Radio 3FM and enters the charts. Silkstone goes on a high school tour across the country to promote their songs. Due to musical differences drummer Boxie decides to leave the band. He is replaced by Jeroen Vrolijk. Early August, Silkstone's second single, Rain Has Come, is released. The band wins an Essent Music Award and plays the Lowlands Festival late August. Vrolijk is replaced by Niels Bik from Embankment. Boxie takes over the drumsticks in Embankment. Silkstone writes a Christmas song for Pepsi. The song is called Blue X-mas is and is used to promote the blue Pepsi that has been launched on the Dutch market.
Silkstone's second album, For A Reason, contains 11 solid pop songs. New single is the acoustic ballad What's The Reason. In June the band plays the Pinkpop festival. Silkstone plays in St. Petersburg for three days. In November the band supports Level 42 on its Dutch tour.
Keyboardist Paul van Twisk and bassist Daniël van Luipen quit the band. The departure is attributed to artistic differences.
With producers Oscar Holleman and John Sonneveld Silkstone starts the recording sessions for the next album at renowned Hilversum-based Wisseloord Studios. In August Silkstone collaborates with watch and fashion brand Guess. The first result of the collaboration is a Guess-Silkstone watch. The band's new single is linked to the Guess 'Faces to Watch' campaign.
Recordings for the album Here In Your World are delayed because the band switches labels and goes from BMG to V2. New producers Paul Simm (Neneh Cherry, Sugababes) and Sam Frank (Jamie Cullum, John Legend) contribute compositions. The poprock songs have been disposed of the earlier grunge influences. Here In Your World is released in February 2008.
Niels Geusebroek contributes to Pure Air, the solo debut of singer Anneke van Giersbergen (Agua de Annique). In June the bandmembers announce the breakup of the band.
