1996

Marg van Eenbergen and Mariken Smit meet after reading an ad in the local newspaper. They team up with guitarist Bas Jacobs, who later switches to guitar. When holding auditions for a singer/guitarist they meet violinist Susanne Linsse. Because they do not succeed in finding a suitable singer Van Eenbergen decides to do the vocals herself. They make their debut on national radio in November and their second demo is awarded Demo of the Month in Music Maker magazine.

1997

Seedling performs at Noorderslag festival in January and plays a session for Studio Brussel in Belgium. They also support foreign bands like Texas, Leah Andreone and Catherine when they play clubs like Paradiso and Tivoli. Yet it takes them a long time before they get the chance to record their first album.

1998

Seedling's first recording to be released on CD is a cover: Is She Weird (on Death To The Pixies (Play It Again Sam)). In June the band travels to London to do two gigs that were arranged by London group Pharmacy. In return, Seedling asks Pharmacy to support them on their tour through The Netherlands.

Seedling signs a deal with Transformed Dreams and records the mini-album Sham Pain, produced by Theo van Eenbergen a.k.a. Theo van Rock, singer Marg's famous uncle.

2000

A gig at the Eurosonic festival in Groningen places Seedling in the centre of attention and national newspaper NRC does an article on the band. In June, Seedling goes to the UK to do some gigs in London, York and Hull.

2001

Seedling for the second time in their career performs at Noorderslag. On February 5 their first album is released: Elevator Tourist. It goes to the number two spot in the indie charts. The band is invited by BBC Radio One DJ John Peel for a live session on May 16. They play some gigs in the UK with local band Melys with whom they also share a split-single (Seedling's contribution is the song Cool Baby, My Hips Go Woo). In August the band performs live at the Lowlands festival and at the PopKomm trade fair in Cologne. On November 1 Seedling is invited by John Peel to perform live on BBC Radio One for the One Live festival (Birmingham).

In January the band records its third John Peel Session for BBC Radio One.

2003

May 26 is the release date of new album Let's Play Boys & Girls. The band has renewed its collaboration with producers Theo van Rock and Peer Rave, who also helmed the EP Sham Pain. The songs on the album are very poppy, punk and jumpy with lots of '60s connotations. Susanne Linssen makes a guest appearance on Klonapet, the fourth album by fellow-citizens Solbakken. In June the band embarks on a 10-date UK tour. Additionally, it cuts its fourth John Peel session.

Michiel Verburgh (ex-zea) temporarily replaces drummer Mariken Smit who suffers from an injury. With Joni Spaan (ex-Jonus, Halifax) Verburgh is one of the two drummers in Bas Jacobs' band Pfaff. Seedling's track Dutch Disease is included on the Public Service Broadcast # 4 sampler issued by UK label Smalltown America in July. Marg van Eenbergen contributes lyrics to the song As Good As It Feels which can be found on the new Solo album Songs 'n Sounds. In the autumn Seedling travels to London twice: In September for a show for a benefit night for Smalltown America and in November for a gig in Upstairs At The Garage. The London show will be the band's last one: After eight years, two albums, an EP and two split singles Seedling announces the end of the band. But before splitting up the band plays several farewell gigs in the Netherlands. In the Fall Bas Jacobs's Pfaff releases its third album. It comes with his first album of poetry Bleek ('Pale'). Under the name GRAM, Marg van Eenbergen works on her solo debut. Drummer Mariken Smit joins the band Norma Jean, that later becomes TomCat, while Susanne Linssen joins the Hospital Bombers.

By the name of GRAM (an anagram) Marg van Eenbergen starts working on her solo debut. Meanwhile she joins About, the one-man electro project of Rutger Hoedemaekers.
