Biography Satellite7

Alternative rock group that goes semi acoustic after playing an acoustic showcase at the Hard Rock Café in Amsterdam. In November 2002 Satellite7 wins the Grand Prix Of The Netherlands Talent Show.

1997

Drummer Chris Kattenberg and vocalist/guitarist Stefan van Maurik form Satellite7.

1998

Guitarist Lodewijk Vos and bassist Simon Zijlstra join the band. In December the band releases a five-track demo cassette.

1999

A self-released CD comes out and the band is acclaimed Local Heroes by Dutch music magazine LiveXS Satellite7. One of the tracks from the mini album can also be found on the compilation CD released by rock magazine Opscene (edition 77).

2000

Satellite7 wins the Amsterdam On Line Pop Award 2000.

2001

After playing an acoustic showcase at the Hard Rock Café in Amsterdam, the band decides to elaborate on the (semi) acoustic aspect in their music, both on stage and on their new album. Both fans and critics are impressed by the interaction between the electric and acoustic aspects of the band's music.

2002

Satellite7 The song You Become is included on the DEMOntage compilation CD that comes with music magazine FRET. Not favourites Kopna Kopna but underdogs Satellite7 win the Grand Prix Of The Netherlands Talent Show after playing a semi acoustic set while sitting on stage. This results not only in a cash prize, but also a gig at the Noorderslagfestival 2003.

2003

Satellite7 plays at the main stage at the Metropolis festival in Rotterdam. Stefan van Maurik and Lydia Wever from this beautiful mess form Jodi's Doorstep. With producer Attie Bauw the band records a three-track single, which is presented at the Lowlands festival in August.

2004

Drummer Chris Kattenberg leaves the band and is replaced by Remco van der Heide (ex-Quark). Late September the band starts recordings for a new album in the E-sound studio.

2005

Between the mixing of its next album the band plays at two European festivals, namely at Slot-art Festival (Lubiaz, Poland) and at Freak Stock (Gotha, Germany).

2006

Side project Jodi's Doorstep cuts its first album. From March 30-April 3 the duo tours Sweden. In April guitarist Lodewijk Vos and his girlfriend form Orchard Road which features IDM and downtempo in the style of Boards Of Canada and Portishead. Later in the year, an Orchard Road track ends up on the Japanese compilation Dejine:rec Compilation vol.1. In October Like Pavlov To A Dog is released. The band's second album is produced by Zlaya Hadzic and released through Kill Your Television Recordings (CD) and Rejoice Records (vinyl). Satellite7 and German band Napoleon tour through the Netherlands and Germany. Single Safer Than America's National Anthem is freely available for downloading from October via myspace.com. Bassist Simon Zijlstra leaves the band and is temporarily replaced by drummer Herman Ypma from the band Eleven.

2007

Satellite7 kicks off the year with a show in Paradiso, Amsterdam. Lodewijk Vos leaves the band and moves to Toronto.
