Biography Sandy Coast

Succesful beat group from Voorburg near The Hague.


1961

Originally called the Sandy Coast Skiffle Group, but when the skiffle craze has blown over the band changes its name into Sandy Coast Rockers.


1963

Sandy Coast wins a talent show, which results in a record deal.

1964 - 1966

The band's debut single Being In Love is released.


1967 - 1968

The band's success is on the increase and the singles A Girl Like You and And Her Name Is… become sizable hits.


1969 - 1970

The single Capital Punishment becomes a major hit for the band. They sign a deal with the UK's Page One label, hoping for an international breakthrough. Although the LP Shipwreck is well received, its sales are disappointing. The single North Canadian Paradise does not reach the charts.


1971

Sandy Coast signs a record deal with Polydor and the singles True Love That's A Wonder and Just A Friend rocket to the top of the charts. The LP Sandy Coast is high in the album charts.


1972

Sandy Coast keeps up their success with Just Two Little Creatures and Summertrain.


1973

The album Stonewall is welcomed coolly upon its release and the single Blackboard Jungle does not enter the charts.


1974

The band splits up and Jan and Hans Vermeulen form Rainbow Train.

1980

Sandy Coast performs at the Beatnight in The Hague and decides to reform.


1981

The Eyes Of Jenny marks their return as hit providers.


1982

The band reforms regularly to perform at Back To The Sixties-festivals.


1988

The band cuts Rendez-vous, Only The Best and tours the country on a regular basis until Hans Vermeulen emigrates to Thailand in 1995.
