Biography Raymzter

1993 - 2000

Half Dutch/half Moroccan Raymzter develops an interest in rap music when he gets a Public Enemy tape from his aunt. Soon afterwards he starts writing his own raps, first in English, but later in Dutch. He starts creating his own beats and also forms his own band with Dominiq Dorwart (Dj-Do), Glenn Gaddum, Jason Chocolaad and Rowin Tetteroo.

2001

With this group, Raymzter enters the Grand Prix of the Netherlands Talent Show. Raymzter and his band win first place in the category hiphop. Gradually he starts making a name for himself in the Dutch hiphop scene. In September he wins the MC Battle Geen Daden Maar Woorden ('Not Words But Action').

2002

Raymzter Raymzter is one of the rappers who are asked to contribute a song for the compilation CD Homegrown - Dope Dutch Hiphop Talent, a release of the Dutch Rock and Pop Institute for unsigned Dutch hiphop acts. He contributes two songs: Kaapwerk ('Capework') and Altijd Laat (Langverwacht Maar Toch Gekomen) ('Always Late (Long Expected But Arrived Anyway')). In June it is announced that Raymzter is one of the winners of an Essent Music Award, a prize that earns him a gig at the Lowlands festival. Raymzter signs to Top Notch/Virgin. In September his first, and very controversial, single Kutmarokkanen?! ('Fucking Moroccans?!') is released and attracts lots of attention from the Dutch media. The title derives from a slip of the tongue of a local politician and is his clever take on the country's swing to right wing politics. Raymzter's full-length debut, Rayalistisch ('Rayalistic') comes out early 2003.

2003

Raymzter Raymzter plays at the Noorderslag conference. Brainpower is prominently featured on the video to Down Met Jou. The debut album Rayalistisch is released in April. For the second consecutive year he performs at the Lowlands festival.

Brainpower

2004

Raymzter Together with D-Men (Lange Frans & Baas B) and Opgezwolle Raymzter performs live in Amsterdam's Melkweg on the Rap4Right night, an educational project for third world youth.

D-Men Opgezwolle

2005

Raymzter Raymzter's career seems to suffer from the huge popularity of rapper Ali B. Then in March Raymzter presents his second album Rayacties in Bitterzoet, Amsterdam. The album is recorded with producer/DJ Mass (Massimo Baudo). Late June hiphop movie Bolletjes Blues!, in which Raymzter plays a small part, is shot.

Negativ

2006 - 2007

Fusion flute player Chris Hinze contributes to the single/video Vechten Op Het Schoolplein ('Fighting At The School Yard'). The collaboration leads to a theatre tour by the two, dubbed Serieuzere Zaken ('More Serious Business'), featuring members from their respective bands plus Moroccan singer More Rajae el Mouhandiz.
