Biography Petros Ovsepyan

Petros Ovsepyan was born on June 4, 1966 in Baku (Azerbaijan), in 1979 he immigrated to the United States.


Education

He began his musical studies at the age of five. He studied at the Manhattan School of Music and Indiana University. His teachers have included Giampaolo Bracali, Brian Ferneyhough, Klaus Huber, Harvey Sollberger, Eugene O'Brien and Claude Baker. In 1995 he was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship to study with Theo Loevendie at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. He has also received fellowships from the Latin-American Music Festival, Bloomington, Indiana (1994), Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (1995), Fondation Royaumont (1996,1997), International Ferienkurse für neue Musik Darmstadt (1998), Soros Foundation (1999), Rockefeller Foundation (2002), Netherland-America Foundation (2002) and Bogliasco Foundation (2005).


Activities

He has been a composer-in-residence of several international festivals including "Words and Music" Latin-American Festival (1994), Gaudeamus Music Week (1996, 1998), Time of Music (1998), American Music Week (1999), Fondation Royaumont (2000), Virginia Waterfront International Arts Festival (2000), MATA (2000), Musica Nova (2001) and Gaudeamus Muziektheater Festival (2004).


Compositions

His works have been performed by ensembles such as l'Instant Donné, Nieuw Ensemble, Klangforum Wien, Nouvelle Ensemble Moderne, l'Itenereire, Aquarius, Doelen Ensemble, Het Amsterdams Kwintet, and Insomnio.


Prizes

Petros Ovsepyan is a winner of several awards, including BMI(1992) and ASCAP (1992).
