Biography Orlando Voorn

Orlando Voorn, also known as the child prodigy of the Dutch house and techno scene, is one of the country's most creative all-round house producers. His best-known projects are Format, Frequency, the Living Room and the Nighttripper.

1984 - 1987

Orlando Voorn starts his DJ career in the world of hiphop. He twice wins the national championships scratching and ends up third at the DMC world championships in London.

1988 - 1994

In 1988 Voorn makes his debut with the hiphop act Fixomatic. One year later he starts his hardcore act Frequency. With Limited Edition he makes ambient discosoul-like house and Format focuses more on Detroit-techno. To prevent an Orlando Voorn-overkill he releases his records under different names. Voorn works with the American Blake Baxter under the name Ghetto Brothers (Pumpin' Bass Manouvres and Muzik EP). His single Dope Computer is released on the US KMS label owned by Inner City's Kevin Saunderson. Under the pseudonym Format, the Nighttripper and Frequency Voorn releases several 12" inches. The Frequency EPs come out on the US Lower East Side label. Wax releases the Sun Drums EP and Format # 3 on the Boudisque-owned ESP label. The Living Room and Defence are released on the Nightvision label. Under the alias Top Billin', a hiphop record comes out.

1995 - 1996

Voorn releases material under the pseudonyms Dope Dog, Fix, Maniaxx Traxx, Ultra and Infinity. The compilation Night Vision contains all of Voorn work. The album is a perfect example of how versatile Voorn actually is.

1997

Voorn starts his own record label Slamdunk on which he releases his music under the name the Stalker.

1998

The compilation album Orlando Voorn Introduces comes out and contains not only tracks from the Stalker, Boy, Galaxy and Fix, but also tracks from the M-Track label from the Amsterdam-based club Mazzo. The album the Riderman, released under the name the Stalker, gets raving reviews from the music press. For this album Voorn has gone back to his roots: Hiphop.

1999

The album Redeye is released on the Boudisque Records label. Besides jungle rhythms, it also features ragga and techno.

2003

Orlando Voorn lives in Detroit. In the US two of the records he made under the name Fix are re-released, namely Flash and its follow-up Igniter 2.
