Biography OLaBOLA

Dance act with former members from Dutch band Gotcha!. OLaBOLA combines old school soul, reggae, jungle, African music and Latin rhythms, which they call Breakbeat Soul. The band was formed in the summer of 2001 during a jam session. In 2003 the band gets an Essent Music Award, records the music for a TV commercial and also signs to V2 Records. In 2004 OLaBOLA is one of the closing act at the Noorderslag festival in Groningen.

2001 - 2005

In the summer of 2001 OLaBOLA is founded at a jam session. In 2003 the band wins an Essent Award, makes the music for two TV commercials by Calvé (mayonnaise) and signs a distribution deal with V2. Both catchy and most danceable tracks are released as a single: Problems and Shake-It. In 2004 the band is one of the headliners at the annual Noorderslag music conference. Unfortunately, the acclaimed band will never release an album. In January 2005 OLaBOLA breaks up due to differences between founders and producers Nico Brandsen en Ro Krom, the creative nucleus of the band. Percussionist Rudi de Graaff writes a column about his adventures as a musician in Fret monthly, published by the Dutch Rock & Pop Institute. Krom joins as rapper and drummer hot new funky club act Kraak & Smaak, featuring Mark Kneppers of renowned DJ duo Wipneus & Pim. He operates by the name of RO 369.
