Female duo that scores many hits in the early '80s with English-language ballads and dance songs.

1974 - 1978

Sisters Doetje and Aaltje de Vries start their career in the Ladypops. In 1974 they form the Karinas and in 1976 they are members of country group Colt 45 (which also includes Harry de Vroege alias Harry Laurens who was also part of Sterling). The sisters also have solo careers under the names Caren Wood and Alice May.

1979

Doetje and Aaltje form Maywood and in December they have a hit with You Treated Me Wrong. The (English-language) songs are written by Alice and producer is former Kayak drummer Pim Koopman.

1980

In March Maywood has a big hit with the ballad Mother How Are You Today. In June Late At Night hits the top spot of the Dutch charts. In September the duo has another hit with Give Me Back My Love.

1981

Success continues and Maywood releases three hit singles of which Rio reaches the Top 3 in July. The sisters release their records in 52 countries and play festivals in West Germany, Poland, Japan and Korea. They also tour Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Indonesia and the Soviet Union. Maywood is also awarded a Zilveren ('Silver') Harp music award.

1982

Several countries in the Far East and Central America have discovered Maywood. The sisters release a Spanish-language album.

1983 - 1989

Success is declining and singles fail to make the charts.

1990

Maywood takes part in the Eurovision Song Contest. The song Ik Wil Alles Met Je Delen ('I Want To Share Everything With You') reaches number 15 with 25 points and becomes a hit. In October they release a Dutch-language album.

1995

The sisters decide to split up. They continue singing at parties, weddings, etc.

1997

After the summer it appears that the sisters will get together again. But Alice decides she prefers a solo career. In November Alice Maywood releases the single Rise In The Morning.

1999

After her sister has filed a lawsuit against her, Doetje is no longer allowed to use the additions Maywood and ex-Maywood. For every violation she has to pay 5.000 guilders, with a maximum of 250.000 guilders.

2007

After several years of silence Alice Maywood performs again singing the greatest hits from the Maywood repertoire.
