Biography Lucien Foort

Lucien Foort from Rotterdam scores his first worldwide dance hits together with the Belgian producer Olivier Abbeloos under the name Quadrophonia. From 1994 he is active as a solo producer and DJ. He releases mix-albums, plays progressive and tech-house worldwide at festivals and in clubs, and makes remixes for international acts like Dirty Vegas (Days Go By), Appleton (Don't Worry), Kosheen (Face In A Crowd) and Gold Digger (Trailor Trash). Together with his wife Dymphna Lucien Foort runs his own company Melody Paradise and the labels Multitracks and MelPar.

1989 - 2000

Lucien Foort is taught music from the age of nine, and he learns how to play the saxophone. At the age of fourteen he plays his first records with a cousin on Sunday afternoons. He is sixteen when Foort starts his career as a professional musician, playing the saxophone and singing in the symphonic pop band Don't Panic. Later he performs as a rapper in the hiphop band The Funky Tribe. Together with the Belgian Olivier Abbeloos he forms the duo Quadrophonia which scores a worldwide dance hit with the single Quadrophonia in 1989. The two travel around the world with their hit, and perform in Japan, Australia and the United States. His first serious attempts at DJ-ing are in 1994, when Foort starts performing at Club Carrerra in his hometown, Rotterdam. Following Quadrophonia he starts releasing records from 1997 onwards under the names Dutch Liquid (with Ron Matser) and Funk Function. The music contains elements from funky techno, deep house and trance. Tracks appear on international mix-CDs by dance greats like Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, John Digweed and Seb Fontaine. His own first mix-album Singularity is released in 2000. The DJ has his own regular gig at the Haarlem club Stalker. He also performs at the Dance Valley festival, Drum Rhythm Festival, Aquabest and 4 Elements (at the Rotterdam Ahoy').

Quadrophonia

2001

Lucien Foort plays his progressive and tech house every month at the large Sheffield club Gatecrasher. He does business in Miami at the annual Miami Winter Music Conference and appears at the main stage of the Dance Valley festival. He also performs at the Amnesia festival at the Ibiza club of the same name. His popularity in Australia increases after his performances at the festivals Slinky and Gatecrasher. The British dance magazine Muzik nominates Foort in the category Best BBC Radio One Essential Mix.

2002

In January the double album Fluid Compilation is released, featuring a mix by Lucien Foort with Evolution. The DJ performs at the festivals Homelands and Gatecrasher Summer Sound System. He makes his American stage debut with a show at the New York club Vinyl.

2003 - 2004

Slice is both the title of a mix-album and the name of Foort's radio show for ID&T's commercial dance radio station. Between August 2003 and September 2004 the show airs every Friday night. The producer promotes his mix-album with a world tour, taking him to Europe, the United States, Australia, Asia and South America.

2005

Lucien Foort In March Foort starts to record tracks with Martijn ten Velden in his new studio. Their first EP Bleeep! is released in September by the British label Toolroom Records. For DJ Disciple Foort makes a remix of the tune I Get High. Lucien Foort's composition Colour My Eyes is included in Tiësto's mix-compilation In Search Of Sunrise 5 and he makes remixes of the Roger Sanchez hits Lost and Marly's Saturday.

2006

In March the DJ/producer visits the Miami Winter Music Conference in Florida again. For his new radio show Los Lucien Foort also performs on location. In the summer he performs at the club BLM9 on the Bloemendaal beach. The DJ also appears at the monthly Southend House Sounds (which he co-organizes) in Leeuwarden, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. At the end of the year Foort goes into the studio with ErickE to produce and compile the second Sneakerz mix-album.

ErickE

2007

Lucien Foort takes a sabbatical on Jamaica for a few months. He then returns to the studio for productions including the track Sound Of Love (featuring Mitch Crown). The single Bassification is his second production with Martijn ten Velden. The DJ performs on 7 July at the Deluxe Areas in the Amsterdam ArenA soccer stadium for the dance event Sensation White. With Don Diablo and Baggi Begovic Lucien Foort launches the special Twisted Cultures nights at the Amsterdam Marcanti. Twisted Cultures is a mixture of musical genres in various halls or in one hall. The first edition takes place on 21 September. In November Lucien Foort starts his own Southend jewelry line; at the same time he launches his Southend Digidread shirts: shirts with his own image on them.
