Biography
Tazelaar is by far the most important practitioner of autonomous electronic music of his generation. In his work, he reconciles modern techniques with the thinking and principles of some 50 years of electronic music. “Pure enchantment awaits those who listen to the music. Tazelaar, just like Jan Boerman, is a master at evoking indescribable atmospheres”, wrote Erik Voermans in Het Parool. Tazelaar is also a pioneer in the restoration and reconstruction of important electronic compositions of the past. He made, for example, new versions of pieces by Gottfried Michael Koenig, Edgard Varèse, György Ligeti, and Jan Boerman (Kompositie, 1972).
1962 - 1992
Kees Tazelaar is born in The Hague on July 27. He studies at the Institute for Sonology from1981 to '83 and 1987 to '89. He subsequently studies composition with Jan Boerman at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
1993
After completing his education, Tazelaar is named an instructor in the Sonology department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
1998 - 2002
From 1998 to 2002 he also teaches at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he sets up a new studio for electronic music.
2005 - 2006
During the 2005-2006 school year, he is the Edgard Varèse guest professor of electronic music at the Berlin Institute of Technology.
2006
Tazelaar is named head of the Sonology department at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.
