Biography Kees Schoonenbeek

Kees Schoonenbeek was born on October 1, 1947 in Arnhem.

Musical Education
He studied piano at the Muzieklyceum in Arnhem and theory of music and composition with Jan van Dijk at the Brabant Conservatorium.


Activities

He taught theory of music at the Brabant Conservatorium (1975-1977) and at the University of Amsterdam from 1977 to 1980. Since 1980 he is teacher of composition, music theory and orchestration at the Brabant Conservatorium. In 1989 he founded is own publishing house Edition Canzona.


Compositions

Schoonenbeek’s body of works is extremely divers and includes chamber music, works for choir, orchestra and symphonic wind orchestra.


Prizes

Schoonenbeek received the Composition Prize from the Brabant Conservatorium in 1978. In 1983 he was awarded the Music Prize of the City of Lochem for Tristropha, for wind band.
