Biography Kasba

The roots of the members of Kasba can be found in the Netherlands as well as Morocco. The band plays their own songs as well as traditional Moroccan songs and combines raï music with reggae and funk. After a gig at the Amsterdam Arena the band's career gains momentum.

2005

In January Kasba plays at the Noorderslag festival. The band contributes to the album Duizel Mij ('Dazzle Me') by cabaret artist Paul de Leeuw. As a result of the Dutch/Moroccan cultural exchange 2005 Kasba tours Morocco. With guitarist Jan Wouter Oostenrijk among others the band plays at the Rawafid Casablanca festival.

2006

The band is featured on the TV documentary Kasba In De Polder ('Kasbah In The Reclaimed Land'), which is broadcast on national television on April 20. Documentary directors Martin Maat and Hans Hermans filmed the band for one and a half years at home, at various gigs with Bløf and Thé Lau among others, and also during its Moroccan tour.

2007

Kasba The album Zigzag (April) contains remixes by the likes of DJ Idriss and DJ mps-PILOT and contributions by the Chaabi orchestra Ismailia and members from the band band Amraoui. The album is produced by the band and Bernard 'Farid' Jusse. The remix of the song Bambara by DJ Idriss reaches number one in the X-chart of radio station FunX. Kasba is one of the acts during the Petje Af show organised by rapper Ali B for the Festival Mundial on 15 June. The theme of the concert is the campaign 'Stop violence against children worldwide'. Kasba signs a distribution deal with LC Music from Belgian for their album Zigzag. The band is nominated for the award Best Dutch World music group organised by world music magazine Beyond.
