Biography Joris Voorn

Joris Voorn is a techno DJ and producer. After having released two EP's he is regarded as the future of techno. His records are played by the likes of Laurent Garnier and Carl Craig. Voorn also releases records under the names Dark Science and Third Nation.

1987 - 1997

Joris Voorn (not related to Orlando Voorn) grows up in Rotterdam. His father is a composer and in his youth Joris plays violin and guitar. When he first hears music by Orbital, The Orb and Leftfield he starts making electronic music. He buys a MC-303 Groovebox and a DJ contest in youth centre Atak wins him a stint as resident DJ in the club. He also works as a DJ in various other Dutch clubs.

2000 - 2001

Voorn records his first demos. His melodic house music goes back to the roots of techno in late '80s Detroit.

2002 - 2003

Voorn's first 12" EP's Muted Trax Pt. 1 & 2, released on the Dutch Keynote label, come to the attention of internationally renowned producers Laurent Garnier and Carl Craig. Voorn is so successful he is forced to give up his day job with an architectural firm. In December 2003 the 12" Lost Memories Pt.1 is released via SINO, sublabel of Technasia. During the Dutch DJ Awards Voorn awarded Talent Of The Year.

2004

The track Incident from the 12" Lost Memories Pt 2 contains an 'old school piano groove'. The EP hits the number one spot of the Techno singles list of Mixmag magazine and is also played by BBC DJ John Peel. Joris Voorn plays the renowned Tresor Club in Berlijn, The Loft in Barcelona, Kozzmozz in Ghent also the Awakenings Festival in Amsterdam and the Movement Festival in Detroit. Under the name Dark Science Voorn also releases the 12" The Real Issue on the Sound Architecture label. The record includes remixes by Alexander Kowalski and Deetron. In October Voorn releases the 12" Two Reasons To Get Back Into Shape under the name Third Nation. It takes Voorn three years to complete his 77-minutes debut album Future History. The album is a mix of techno, electro and breakbeats. For the second year in a row Voorn receives a Dutch DJ Award for Talent Of The Year.

2005

Voorn remixes the track See Myself by Secret Cinema. The EP A Dedicated Mind is the first release on Joris Voorn's own label Green. The first mix CD by the DJ/producer is Fuse Presents Joris Voorn. The record features fourty technotracks including his own songs Many Reasons and Don't Believe The Snake Hips and tracks by people such as Carl Craig, Arthur Baker, Lil Louis, Jeff Mills, Secret Cinema, Kenny Larkin and Robert Hood.

2006 - 2007

The A-side of the 12'' Coming From The Shower After A Late Night With A Failed Date is the track MPX_309 which can also be found on various compilation, including techno compilations Chris Liebing Live @ Womb - Tokyo, Mauro Picotto Presents Meganite Compilation Volume 3 and the Japanese Wire 06 Compilation. Late 2006 Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal start record label Rejected Music. The first release on the label is the EP SL3/Cliché. Second album From A Deep Place is released worldwide in May 2007. The CD version is more suitable for at home while th vinyl version is better played in clubs. The album features a mix of broken beats, techno and electronic sounds. The third EP Let's Go Juno (August) by Rejected features funky tech-house.
