Jim Bakkum (10 August 1987) is raised into a musical family. He takes part in the Children's Songcontest and at the age of thirteen he sings in his own band. In October 2002, he auditions for Idols, a talent show on Dutch TV. The intention is to create a pop idol. The winner of the show will get a three-year record deal. The idea is based on an English show in which the winner (but also several runners-up) score hit after hit. From day one, the show is a huge success. On average, more than 2 million people watch the programme. Each week a jury – made up of several influential people for the Dutch music scene – decide which talents go through to the next round. Finally, ten contestants remain. Each week one of them is send home by the viewers at home.
