Biography Jörgen van Rijen

“Van Rijen is a real ambassador for his instrument, which among composers is not entirely considered as a virtuoso member of the brass section. He often performs as a soloist in the Netherlands and abroad, and performs in chamber music ensembles. Van Rijen gives attention to promoting the trombone, for example by developing new repertoire for it and presenting existing repertoire, including early music, before a wider public. Among the well-known composers who have written music for him are Martijn Padding, Jacob ter Veldhuis and Jan van Vlijmen. He teaches at the Rotterdam Conservatory and often gives master classes.
