Izaline Calister is born in Curacao. As a child she sings in the Perlitas choir. In 1987 she moves to the Netherlands and attends music school in the city of Groningen.
Calister replaces Angélique Kidjo of the group Pili Pili. She forms a duo with guitarist Rob Elfrink from the band Faria.
With Rob Elfrink she forms Aquarela Do Brasil. The band combines Brazilian and Afro-Cuban Caribian music and also plays adaptations of Brazilian classics by the likes of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Djavan and Elis Regina. Aquarela Do Brasil also includes Jasper Westerhof (keyboards), Martijn Schuppers (bass), Sebastiaan Kaptein (drums), Victor Modderkolk (trumpet), Stanley Medema (sax) and Joop van der Linden (trombone). In Grupo Zamanakitok, a band formed by bassist Eric Calmes, Calister sings in Papiamento. The band combines Caribbean rhythms and jazz. Through drummer Marlon Klein from Pili Pili gets in contact with German world music band Dissidenten. Calister replaces lead singer Bajka and goes on tour with the band. Her first gig with Dissidenten during the Stuttgart Jazz Festival which is also recorded for German television. She stays part of the band for three years and plays with them at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Glastonbury and Roskilde and can also be heard on the album Live In Europe.
Calister graduates from music school. She and several talented musicians from Curacao form the Izaline Calister Band. She also sings on the album Wiseguy by Grupo Zamanakitoki.
Izaline Calister travels to New York for the performance of Michiel Borstlap's Temple of Dance, a project that combines jazz and dance.
The first album by the Izaline Calister Band is called Soño Di Un Muhé (Dream Of A Woman). The album tops the Curacao album chart and the single Fiesta Di Piskadó is also a hit. Calister is asked by the band Jamesz to join them as guest vocalist on their Young Vips Tour. In November and December Jamesz and Calister shows in Dutch jazz clubs.
In May Soño Di Un Muhé is nominated for an Edison music award in the category Vocal Jazz. Calister and Jamesz perform at the North Sea Jazz festival in the Netherlands and the Tabarka Jazz Festival in Tunesia. With her own band Calister tours Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras where they plays several acoustic shows. Calister is chosen as Tumba Queen at the Tumba Festival at Curacao where she also sings Mucha Di Otrabanda (Sa Sa Na Awasa). The song reaches the first place of the Curacao charts. Izaline Calister, Deborah Carter and Wies Ingwersen perform with pianist Michiel Borstlap during Borstlap's Vocal 2001.
Calister and actor Wijnand Stomp go on tour with Juffrouw Kokolishi's Bruiloft ('Miss Kokolishi's Wedding'), based on Antilian children's songs. The duo is backed by Eric Calmes (bas), Randal Corsen (piano) and Roël Calister (drums). Pianist Randal Corsen and Calister form a duo. Henk Meutgeert and Rob Horsting arrange several of Calister songs for an open-air concert given by the singer and the Noord Nederlands Orkest. Izaline forms a band with which she will perform at the Amsterdam Roots Festival. The show is a tribute to the composer Rignald Recordina from Curacao who is also known as Doble R. The band, Fiesta Kurasoleño, also includes Joe Rivera and Wim Both (trumpet), David Rothschild (trombone), Konstantin Klastorni (sax) Randal Corsen (piano), Eric Calmes (bass), Ulrich de Jesus (guitar), Niata Augusta (backing vocals), Roël Calister (drums), Michael Magou (bongo's, backing vocals), Liber Torriente (timbals) and Gerardo Rosales (conga's). Mariposa (Butterfly), the second album by Calisters own band, is nominated for an Edison music award. The album is recorded in Amsterdam and Willemstad (with Grupo Trichera, a group that specialises in traditional Antillean music.
Calister and her band tour the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy. Calister also acts in the Vagina Monologues. She also joins singer Leoni Jansen and forty other musicians from various countries for a musical project called Made In Holland. Calister is also part of the theatre show She Got Game Too in which she and Leonie Jansen, Astrid Seriese, Sarina Voorn and The Moluccan Moods Voices (Ana Makaloy, Regina Bolderdijk-Lekransy and Maria Lekransy) sing pop songs and world music. On 20 December Calister, Mathilde Santing and Francien van Tuinen perform with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw during a special Christmas show.
Izaline Calister sings the song Amsterdamse Kracht for the mayor of Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw. Pili Pili celebrates its 20th anniversary with a German tour. Calister also joins the band. The album Krioyo is presented on April 18 in The Hague.
In September she continues her Krioyo-tour through the Netherlands.
Her fourth album is tiled Kanta Hélele, which literally means 'Sing Along With Me.' The songstress claims that the album - featuring traditionals, ballads, an Antillean waltz, salsa and rumba - reflects her optimistic nature. The album is self-produced with Pernell Saturnino. Trumpeter Eric Vloeimans contributes to the track Lamento di Mosa Nena. On May 7 the CD is launched at Amsterdam's Bimhuis.
Izaline Calister performs in Amsterdam on May 5 during the Liberation Day celebrations with the Metropole Orchestra, conducted by Vince Mendoza. The show is live broadcast on Dutch national TV. On 15 June, the singer and her band perform in New York. In July, Izaline Calister travels to Curaçao and Aruba to perform Changa, a musical theatre show. Calister tours the Dutch theatres with the show Kanta Hélele between 5 October and 10 May 2008. Late November, the singer performs at the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest as part of Dutch Culture Week.
In January, Izaline Calister and her band (bassist Yerman Aponte, guitarist Ed Verhoeff and percussionist Roël Calister) perform in Mali where they play at the Festival Sur Le Niger in Segou. The trip is part of an exchange organised by Mundial Productions. In March, the singer and Raymi Sambo can be seen in the Dutch theatres with the show Verhalen Voor Een Warme Lentenacht (Stories For A Warm Spring Night). They are joined on stage by Ed Verhoeff and Calister's broer Roël. Izaline and Roël travel to New York for a special show on 25 March during the commemoration of slavery at the General Assembly Hall in the building of the United Nations. During their performance of Vlemayo Cositu they are joined by guitarist Nile Rodgers. The title of the album Speransa is Papiamento for hope. Besides new, previously unreleased material, the CD features music of the theatre tour in an alternate version. With this CD the singer starts a new career as a singer-songwriter. On 7 June, Izaline Calister is one of the opening acts of a season of live music at the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. On 11 July Calister performs at the North Sea Jazz festival. Early September she performs in Aruba and Curaçao. On 19 September she performs with the Metropole Orchestra during the World Music & Jazzgala in Rotterdam and late September she sings a duet with singer Steve Hofmeyr in Cape Town, South Africa. On 15 October is the premiere of Calister's theatre show 10 Jaar De Mooiste Liedjes (10 Years The Most Beautiful Songs). Besides her own material, Calister sings songs by George Gershwin, Toon Hermans, Harry Belafonte, Miriam Makeba and Gloria Estefan. On 18 November Izaline Calister receives an Edison Music Award for her album Speransa in the category Jazz and World Music.
