Biography Ivy Green

First Dutch punk rock group.

1975

Ivy Green Eduard Van Bockel, Tim Mullens, Arther van Dijke and Ernst-Jan Kamphuis form Ivy Green, named after a poem by Charles Dickens.

1976

Ivy Green performs its first gig.

1977

Punk rock hits The Netherlands and Ivy Green signs to WEA.

1978

Ivy Green records its debut album. The first single is Whap Shoo Whap (better known as I'm Sure We're Gonna Make It). Despite the fact that album sales are promising Ivy Green is dumped by WEA.

1979

The problems with WEA have left the band with a lack of self-confidence. Van Bockel and Van Dijke quit and Tim Mullens suffers from an emotional breakdown.

1980

Personnel changes take its toll on the band and it takes them a while to recover. Long-time fan Bart den Boer joins the band.

1981 - 1982

The band's sound has moved from mere punk rock to straightforward rock 'n' roll with '60s influences. Ivy Green takes on a brass section A.J. Bosz (trumpet) and Sjaak 'Muts' Matze (sax). The band also starts its own label: No Bluff Records.

1983

The single The Damage is released on No Bluff Records.

1984

Another single Dreaming Of You is released in January. The Garageland EP contains three songs that were originally recorded in 1981. The album The Quest is influenced by '60s beat music.

Claw Boys Claw

1985

The brass section is replaced by former band member Ernst-Jan Kamphuis (trumpet) and Evert-Jan Rietbergen (sax). The single Good Thing Happen is released.

1986

The band celebrates its 10th anniversary and releases the double album What Ever They Hype, including a re-release of its acclaimed debut album. Ivy Green supports the Ramones on one of their Dutch shows, and they are so impressed by the Dutch group that they dedicate one of their songs to them.

Jack Of Hearts L'Attentat World War Rockers

1987

The LP Moon Raised is recorded.

1988

Ivy Green plays at the Noorderslag festival.

1989

Ivy Green goes on a tour of Switzerland.

1990

Ivy Green Martijn Loos (alias Dr. Loos) joins Ivy Green. They re-release their debut album on CD (including bonus track The Ivy Green). Real Slow Burn is the band's new album. First single to be taken from the album is Into The Deep. Then Ivy Green announces that they have split up. In December they perform their last ever gig in the Melkweg in Amsterdam.

1996

A small California record company wants to re-release all the Ivy Green albums on CD. The band members, however, say that the band is a closed book and refuse. The book Het Gejuich Was Massaal ('The Cheering was Immense'), about the Dutch punk rock scene, is published. The compilation CD that goes with the book is called I'm Sure We're Gonna Make It (after the 1978 Ivy Green single).

2008

In August, Ernst Kamphuis dies at the age of 47.

2011

Ivy Green's first album is rereleased by Japanse label 1977 Records (www.1977records.com), on vinyl and cd with bonus tracksThe Ivy Green en Pak'n Beat. In his book Verdwaald In Alle Vragen (Lost In All The Questions) journalist Alje Kamphuis writes about the suicide of his brother Ernst in August 2008.
