The group tours through the UK and performs at the renowned Hemsby Rock 'n' Roll Weekender festival and the Edale Bluegrass festival. Back home they receive the Gerard de Vries Award for most promising country band. In Germany they back Rose Maddox, who shot to fame in the '40s with her brothers, the Maddox Bros.

The CD Rockin' & Cloggin' is the group's breakthrough album. A dream comes true when the Hillbilly Boogiemen go on a tour in the US organized by former Fabulous Thunderbirds and Paladins roadmanager Steve Dean. The tour puts them on the same bill as Emmylou Harris and the Dillards. Rockin' & Cloggin' is also released in the US. For the fourth time the group wins the Gram Parsons Award.

Yet another tour of the US. The Hillbilly Boogiemen get a raving review in the Washington Post and on stage they are joined by violinist Byron Berline (in Oklahoma) and Dale Watson (in Texas). Following their US tour they travel to Ireland where they are awarded most popular bluegrass band. Again, they win the Gram Parsons Award. Back in the Netherlands they play the larger festivals like Metropolis and Oeral. Late 1999 they play in Texas and Oklahoma. The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma's most popular newspaper, publishes an article on the band that says: 'Bluegrass date? Go Dutch'.

Again, the Hillbilly Boogiemen go Stateside. After that they're off to Spain, France, Italy and Ireland.

On 17 March Hillbilly Boogiemen perform at the Blue Highways roots festival in their hometown Utrecht. One day earlier they celebrate their tenth anniversary with a show in Stairway To Heaven, also in Utrecht.

Supported by Belgium's band The Seatsniffers and Utrecht-based alt.country band the Faraways, the band celebrates its 15th anniversary at Utrecht's Vredenburg on November 26.
