1990

The Hillbilly Boogiemen are formed in Utrecht by Arnold Lasseur (vocals, steelguitar, mandolin), Aart Schroevers (vocals, bass guitar), Robert-Jan Kanis (vocals, guitar) and Bart van Strien (vocals, banjo, bluesharp, guitar). The group is influenced by illustrious names such as Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, George Jones and Bill Monroe.

1991

The group receives a Silver Fiddle Award.

1992

The Hillbilly Boogiemen record their first demo and play at the Floralia-festival.

1993

The group tours through the UK and performs at the renowned Hemsby Rock 'n' Roll Weekender festival and the Edale Bluegrass festival. Back home they receive the Gerard de Vries Award for most promising country band. In Germany they back Rose Maddox, who shot to fame in the '40s with her brothers, the Maddox Bros.

1994

The Hillbilly Boogiemen win the Country Gazette's Gram Parsons Award for best acoustic country band in the Netherlands.

1995

Hillbilly Boogiemen The CD Live At The Pumpkins comes out and gets positive reviews.

1996

For the second time the Hillbilly Boogiemen win the Gram Parsons Award.

1997

Hillbilly Boogiemen The group plays at the Guinness Bluegrass Festival in Ireland. Again, they win the Gram Parsons Award for best acoustic country band.

1998

The CD Rockin' & Cloggin' is the group's breakthrough album. A dream comes true when the Hillbilly Boogiemen go on a tour in the US organized by former Fabulous Thunderbirds and Paladins roadmanager Steve Dean. The tour puts them on the same bill as Emmylou Harris and the Dillards. Rockin' & Cloggin' is also released in the US. For the fourth time the group wins the Gram Parsons Award.

1999

Yet another tour of the US. The Hillbilly Boogiemen get a raving review in the Washington Post and on stage they are joined by violinist Byron Berline (in Oklahoma) and Dale Watson (in Texas). Following their US tour they travel to Ireland where they are awarded most popular bluegrass band. Again, they win the Gram Parsons Award. Back in the Netherlands they play the larger festivals like Metropolis and Oeral. Late 1999 they play in Texas and Oklahoma. The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma's most popular newspaper, publishes an article on the band that says: 'Bluegrass date? Go Dutch'.

2000

Again, the Hillbilly Boogiemen go Stateside. After that they're off to Spain, France, Italy and Ireland.

2001

On 17 March Hillbilly Boogiemen perform at the Blue Highways roots festival in their hometown Utrecht. One day earlier they celebrate their tenth anniversary with a show in Stairway To Heaven, also in Utrecht.

2005

Supported by Belgium's band The Seatsniffers and Utrecht-based alt.country band the Faraways, the band celebrates its 15th anniversary at Utrecht's Vredenburg on November 26.

2006

By the name of Blue Grass Boogiemen the Hillbilly Boogiemen play bluegrass on acoustic instruments, standing around a single 'omni-directional' microphone. First album by Blue Grass Boogiemen is Who's Afraid Of The Boogiemen. It contains 16 tracks including originals next to covers by Hank Williams, Bill Monroe and Jimmy Martin. The band plays at Lowlands.
