Biography Hans van Sweeden

Hans van Sweeden is born on March 8, 1939 in Amsterdam and dies there on April 12, 1963.


Education

Hij studies in 1958 at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Kees van Baaren; his classmates include Misha Mengelberg, Louis Andriessen en Peter Schat.

He is a musician, (film)actor, composer, poet and dancer.


Compositions

For the so-called 'concerts of own works' given by the composition department of the conservatory he composes Drei Nachtstcke for piano, inspired by Georg Trakl's poetry, performed by his roommate Ton Hartsuiker. He is one of the first Dutch composers influenced by Alban Berg and Anton Webern; he even signs his works for some time with Alban van Sweeden. In 1961 he makes the music for the film Alle Vogels Hebben Nesten (All Birds Have Nests) by Louis van Gasteren. For the play Spooksonate by August Strindberg he composes Solo For Violin and for the television production by Ton Lensink Kent U De Melkweg? (Do You Know The Milkyway?) he writes Gino Avec L'Occarino.

Publications
In 1980 Meulenhoff publishes a collection of his literary work De Mooie Stad (The Beautiful City). Donemus is publisher of a collection of his musical oeuvre entitled Dode Duiven Vallen Om Mij Heen (Dead Pigeons Falling Around Me) (1981). Louis van Gasteren makes a documentary in 1983 Hans: Het Leven Voor De Dood (Hans: Life After Death), winner of the Gouden Kalf award.
