Hans van Sweeden was born on March 8, 1939 in Amsterdam and died there on April 12, 1963.
Hij studied in 1958 at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Kees van Baaren; his classmates included Misha Mengelberg, Louis Andriessen en Peter Schat.
He was a musician, (film)actor, composer, poet, dancer.
For the so-called 'concerts of own works' given by the composition department of the conservatory he composed Drei Nachtstcke for piano,inspired by Georg Trakl's poetry, and these were performed by his roommate Ton Hartsuyker. He was one of the first Dutch composers influenced by Alban Berg and Anton Webern; he even signed his works for some tome with Alban van Sweeden. In 1961 he made the music for the film Alle vogels hebben nesten by Louis van Gasteren. For the play Spooksonate by August Strindberg he composed Solo for violin and for the television production by Ton Lensink Kent u de Melkweg? he wrote Gino avec l'occarino.
Publications
In 1980 Meulenhoff published a collection of his literary work De Mooie Stad. Donemus is publisher of a collection of his musical oeuevre entitled Dode duiven vallen om mij heen (1981). Louis van Gasteren made a documentary in 1983 Hans: het leven voor de dood (winner of the Gouden Kalf award).
