Biography Gustavo A. Trujillo

1972

Gustavo A. Trujillo was born on the island Tenerife in 1972.

Musical Education
He studied clarinet at the Conservatory Santa Cruz de Tenerife. He moved to Amsterdam in 1993 to study composition at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. His composition teachers were Daan Manneke, Geert van Keulen and Theo Verbey. He also followed the course "New Contempory and Non-Western Techniques" with Rafael Reina. He participated in various composer seminars and master classes with J. Darias, A. Blanquer, J.J. Falcón and Leonardo Balada, among others. In 1998 he was selected to participate at the 4th International Composer's Meeting in Apeldoorn. In that same year he followed the Stockhausen Kurse-Kürten under the direction of Karl Heinz Stockhausen. In October 2000 he graduated from the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he received composition lessons by Klaas de Vries, Peter Jan Wagemans and René Uijlenhoet. There in Rotterdam he also studied music theory with Patrick van Deurzen, Peter Jan Wagemans and Désirée Staverman.

Activities
He is a member of the Dutch association of music theory and since 1999 guest lecturer on the Faculty Art and Cultural Studies at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.


Compositions

His oeuvre consists of works for divers instrumentation. A few are worth mentioning: Baile (orchestra), Madrigal de los Campesinos (choir), Forma Deforme (recorder quartet), De Fahrradstand Oper (chamber opera), Wolof (large ensemble), As if nothing happened (ballet), Música para liebres muertas (electronics). Malpaís con Campanas was premiered in 2000 by teh Nederlands Ballet Orchestra under the direction of Christopher Lyndon-Gee.


Prizes

For Pavana lachrimae (organ) he received the second prize at the Hinsz Composition competition in Kampen. And Canción para dormir (choir), got the first prize at the IV Concurso de Composición Coral Ciudad de La Laguna (Spain).
